Novonesis is seeking a Project Engineering Intern to support engineering and capital project activities within a manufacturing environment. You will work alongside project engineers, operations, maintenance, and quality teams to assist in facility improvements, equipment installations, and process optimization.

The internship provides hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept through startup, with opportunities to present findings to site leadership.

Qualifications

  • GPA requirement of 3.0 or higher.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Interest in engineering project management and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Support capital and CI projects across manufacturing and site infrastructure.
  • Assist with project planning, scoping, scheduling, budgeting and tracking.
  • Participate in facility improvements, equipment installations, and system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop project documentation and engineering records.

The Project Engineering Department is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting capital and continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations and site infrastructure. The team partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and external contractors to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and deliver projects that improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and production capability.As a Project Engineering Intern , you will support engineering and capital project activities while gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. This role provides opportunities to work alongside project engineers, operations personnel, and cross-functional teams to support facility improvements, equipment installations, process optimization, and project documentation. Interns will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept development and design through project execution and startup.Key Responsibilities Include:Support capital and continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations and site infrastructure.Assist with project planning, scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and project tracking activities.Participate in facility improvement projects, equipment installations, and system upgrades.Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities.Support engineering studies, evaluations, and technical assessments related to manufacturing processes and infrastructure.Assist with contractor coordination, project documentation, and engineering records.Help develop project specifications, drawings, reports, and technical documentation.Analyze operational and project data to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.Participate in project meetings, site walkthroughs, and startup activities.Present project findings, recommendations, and outcomes to site leadership and project stakeholders.What You'll Need to Be SuccessfulWe are looking for students who are currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in:Mechanical EngineeringChemical EngineeringElectrical EngineeringIndustrial EngineeringConstruction EngineeringOr a related engineering disciplineRequired Qualifications and CompetenciesMinimum 3.0 GPA.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Interest in engineering project management, manufacturing operations, and continuous improvement.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.Sophomore standing or higher at the time of application.Ability to arrange your own housing and transportation.Ways of Working / Working ConditionsFull-time internship assignment lasting approximately 10 weeks.Located on-site in Franklinton, NC.Exposure to manufacturing operations, engineering projects, and industrial infrastructure systems.Occasional use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering production areas.Collaboration with cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, Engineering, and external contractors.Compensation & BenefitsExpected salary: $23/hrRelevant InformationProgram Dates: May 24th, 2027 to July 30th, 2027Position Type: Temporary position payrolled through a third-party providerApplication Deadline: October 15, 2026Our purpose guides the wayIn Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges.
