Job summary

City of Houston, Engineering and Construction, seeks a licensed professional engineer to lead the design and construction oversight of Facilities CIP projects, including water and wastewater systems.

You will prepare contracts, review plans, attend progress meetings, conduct on-site inspections, and supervise design consultants and contractors. Four years of engineering practice required; Texas PE license preferred; Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from an engineering program with satisfactory standing.
• Four years of active practice in engineering after graduation.
• Master's degree may substitute for up to two years of experience.
• Requires registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas; license in a specific branch may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in the administration and supervision of design and construction of Facilities Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) such as water and/or wastewater transmission and distribution systems, water purification plants, and wastewater treatment plants.
• Prepare and/or review design and construction contracts, plans, specifications, technical reports, cost estimates, invoices and pay estimates, supplemental agreements or appropriations, change orders, RFI and council actions.
• Attend and conduct design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections; supervise design consultants and construction contractors.
• Investigate and respond to inquiries from City of Houston departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the general public.
