Job summary

Horner & Shifrin is seeking a full-time Bridge Project Engineer in our Structural Business Unit with 5+ years of experience. You will follow established standards, perform structural calculations for bridges and walls, and help prepare drawings to meet client needs.

The role requires licensure as a Professional Engineer, IL licensure preferred, and experience with IDOT or Tollway bridges. Proficiency in MicroStation and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• PE licensure and IL licensure preferred for this role.
• Experience with IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge projects is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Proficient in MicroStation and bridge design software.
• Bridge inspection experience is preferred; willingness to travel to sites.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a background check.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

• Follow Bridge Practice production and design standards and procedures as delegated by the Project Manager.
• Perform and check structural engineering calculations of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation infrastructure structures using company, client, and industry standards.
• Participate in the preparation and checking of structural construction drawings created by teammates to meet firm and client requirements.
• Develop and check cost estimates.
• Participate in the preparation of reports and studies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Licensed Professional Engineer
• Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois (preferred)
• Experience with design and detailing of IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge projects (firm requirement)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in MicroStation
• Knowledge of Structural Bridge Design Software
• Previous bridge inspection experience (preferred)
• Ability to traverse structural sites, including heights and rough terrain
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must complete a background check

SALARY RANGE:

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. offers a comprehensive total rewards package and is committed to fair, competitive, market-based compensation. The target salary range for this position is $95,000 - $140,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, and geographic location.
