Job summary

Pape-Dawson is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to lead civil land development projects in Orlando, FL or Jacksonville, FL. The Project Engineer will own technical deliverables from concept through final design, ensuring constructability and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a PE license, 5+ years of experience, and strong communication. You will mentor junior staff, coordinate across disciplines, and contribute to project delivery in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with applicable engineering design and analysis software.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead technical work, mentor others, and coordinate across disciplines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and commitment to quality project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and preparation of land development plans for land development projects.
  • Develop grading, drainage, utility, and roadway layouts meeting client objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate permitting and agency approvals related to site development projects.
  • Evaluate site constraints and design alternatives for constructible solutions.
  • Lead and produce complete engineering designs, including plans, specs, reports, calculations, and estimates.
  • Coordinate technical work with project managers, internal disciplines, subconsultants, and external stakeholders.
  • Review and oversee work prepared by engineers, EITs, designers, and technicians for accuracy and quality.
  • Prepare and review technical reports and documentation using standard engineering tools.
  • Support project delivery by identifying technical risks and resolving design issues.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, agencies, and project partners.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Participate in professional organizations to support growth.

Our Residential Land Development team is seeking a Project Engineer for our Orlando, Florida or Jacksonville, Florida office. The Project Engineer is a licensed Professional Engineer responsible for leading technical design and engineering execution on land development project. This role takes full ownership of technical deliverables from concept through final design, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and preparation of land development plans for land development projects.
  • Develop grading, drainage, utility, and roadway layouts that meet client objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate permitting and agency approvals related to site development projects.
  • Evaluate site constraints and design alternatives to support efficient and constructible solutions.
  • Lead and produce complete engineering designs, including plans, specifications, reports, calculations, and estimates, in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate technical work with project managers, internal disciplines, subconsultants, and external stakeholders.
  • Review and oversee work prepared by engineers, EITs, designers, and technicians to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, studies, and documentation using standard engineering and office software tools.
  • Support project delivery by identifying technical risks, resolving design issues, and contributing to schedule and budget adherence.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, agencies, and project partners, representing the company with professionalism and confidence.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff, supporting their professional development.
  • Participate in professional, technical, or community organizations to support continued growth and industry engagement.
