Job summary

Advantage Technical is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to lead technical efforts on complex power generation projects. The role requires strong engineering leadership in power generation, utilities, or large-scale energy projects, with experience supporting fossil-fuel plants and related initiatives.

The position is client-facing, working with clients, consulting engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to provide technical leadership for complex power generation projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background within the power generation, utility, or large-scale energy industry, with experience supporting fossil-fuel power plants or similar power projects.

This is a highly visible, client-facing engineering role requiring the ability to build strong working relationships with clients, consulting engineers, third-party contractors, subcontractors, designers, equipment suppliers, and internal engineering teams.

The Project Engineer serves as the engineering team leader for assigned projects and works closely with the Project Manager, who has overall responsibility for project execution. This individual owns the engineering and technical aspects of the project, ensuring designs and deliverables meet contractual requirements, applicable codes and standards, project schedules, budgets, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the engineering team leader for assigned power generation projects, managing and coordinating technical activities throughout project execution.
• Work closely with the Project Manager, Project Planner, Subcontract Manager, Project Design Lead, and functional engineering teams to successfully execute projects.
• Serve as the company's primary engineering representative to clients regarding technical and engineering matters.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consulting engineers, subcontractors, third-party engineering firms, designers, equipment suppliers, and fabricators.
• Ensure engineering activities and designs comply with contract specifications, building codes, industry codes and standards, and client requirements.
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor engineering activities and develop project scopes of work.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts and ensure appropriate technical resources are available to meet project requirements.
• Partner with internal departments and subcontractors to develop and execute construction plans and engineering documentation.
• Ensure the technical accuracy and timely completion of project deliverables, including technical documents, RFQs, material and equipment specifications, purchase documents, commissioning procedures, O&M manuals, acceptance test procedures, and technical reports.
• Initiate and monitor project documentation within the DMS system, including RFIs, NCRs, and other technical documentation.
• Lead and participate in technical meetings with clients, consulting engineers, subcontract engineers, equipment suppliers, and fabricators.
• Partner with the Project Manager and engineering teams to develop and maintain the project schedule and engineering/design execution plan.
• Execute engineering activities in accordance with the project's schedule, budget, scope, design plan, and resource requirements.
• Monitor engineering hours, scheduled activities, technical deliverables, project progress, risks, and problems.
• Manage and coordinate engineering subcontractors, including schedules, technical requirements, and the timely receipt and review of deliverables.
• Identify technical issues and work collaboratively with the project team to develop solutions that protect schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
• Prepare project reports, correspondence, agreements, presentations, graphs, tables, and other technical documentation as required.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Professional engineering experience within power generation, electric utilities, fossil-fuel power plants, or large-scale power/energy projects.
• Experience working in an engineering lead, project engineering, or design leadership capacity.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple engineering disciplines and technical resources.
• Experience working within a design/build, EPC, or complex project execution environment.
• Strong client-facing skills with the ability to develop productive relationships with customers, contractors, engineers, designers, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret and manage engineering requirements against project specifications, applicable codes and standards, schedules, budgets, and contractual requirements.
• Strong project coordination, communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred

• Experience supporting large utility-scale power generation projects.
• Previous experience functioning as an Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer, or Project Engineer.
• Experience with Primavera P6 or similar project scheduling software.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
