ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Ensure that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard’s safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.
- Review functional/basic naval architecture design documents and delivery documentation from engineering design partner, including but not limited to weight estimates, stability analysis, model testing, and delivery documentation.
- Provide technical support to production in advance of launch and deadweights/inclines. Conduct deadweight surveys, survey the as-built ship to develop weight to complete estimates, and provide ballasting plans. These will require time onboard.
- Draft test procedures for incline/deadweights and sea trials.
- Meet with Testing & Commissioning and Production management to facilitate ship readiness and adapt plans to suit the construction schedule. Coordinate/execute incline/deadweight testing, obtain class approval.
- Interface with owner, class, and design partner to resolve technical issues.
- Identify and facilitate resolution of technical issues which bridge engineering departments or is not assigned to any single department. This may involve leading meetings, proposing paths, or assuming the work.
- Review preliminary ship design documents to further business development and coordinate technical reviews as necessary. Act as intermediary between potential owners and the design partner.
- Draft statements of work and manage engineering subcontractors for discrete tasking, including sea trials.
- Review, coordinate, and draft various paperwork necessary for contract and delivery, including changes to the specification, change orders, testing plans, SOW/purchase orders, or technical paperwork for government submission.
- Coordinate inputs for larger technical meetings with the customer, particularly early in the design stage. Meet with Owners and record minutes; follow up with various parties to ensure close out of actions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Naval Architecture
- Practical experience in a shipyard or in a consulting firm for a minimum of 2 years is a plus
- Project coordination/project management experience is a plus
- Experiencing working in a team
- Knowledge/experience concerning basic and detail ship design, and modern shipbuilding practices is a plus
- Proficiency with MS Office and CAD systems such as AutoCAD
- Experience with naval architectural software such as NAPA or HECSalv is a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be executed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
