To ensure that the Cooperative’s electric distribution system is based on cost-effective, sound engineering principles through the application of fundamental project management skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform duties in a safe, satisfactory, competent, and timely manner.
- Develop and coordinate project work plans, managing them through completion and informing supervisors of major developments or changes.
- Design plans for reliable and economical electric systems for new construction and system improvements, including residential and commercial subdivisions.
- Provide accurate cost estimations based on current labor and material costs.
- Ensure proper transformer sizing and resource planning by evaluating load forms for large commercial accounts.
- Coordinate construction plans to meet RUS Specifications and NESC requirements.
- Maintain GSPC Construction Specifications and Standards.
- Manage electrical plant records, easements, maps, inventory, staking sheets, and territorial maps.
- Design residential development lighting layouts.
- Establish and follow approved RUS work order procedures.
- Handle permitting efforts related to new construction and system upgrades.
- Initiate project status reports and keep management informed of progress.
- Provide engineering recommendations for electrical system requirements.
- Coordinate construction efforts for roadway projects within GSPC territory.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations staff to determine cost-effective and safe electrical service solutions.
- Work with cross-functional teams to solve problems and improve processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting during emergency outages.
Project Engineer II - includes all above plus:
- Conduct project status reports and inform management.
- Use GSPC distribution models for engineering analyses such as fault current, capacitor placement, motor starting, and voltage drop calculations.
Project Engineer III - includes all above plus:
- Review work order construction inspections and follow up on corrective measures.
- Manage contract changes, record-keeping for joint-use facilities, billing, and payments.
- Assist with territorial affairs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with emphasis on electric power.
- 0-2 years of power distribution experience for entry level; 3+ years for mid-level; 7+ years for senior roles.
- Knowledge of RUS standards and NESC codes beneficial.
- Professionalism, positive attitude, and willingness to develop skills.
- EIT preferred for lower levels; EIT required for senior roles.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and Microsoft Office tools.
- Proven analytical and communication skills.
- Must pass physical and drug screening, have a valid Georgia driver’s license.
