Summary
Organizes project teams, assigns individual responsibilities, develops project schedules, and determines resource requirements. Monitors and reports on the status of projects including cost, timing, and staffing. Ensures adherence to internal and external quality standards. Roles include those for technical project/program activities, in which the NYPA employee has foundational knowledge in the specific area to advise on scope changes and other technical aspects.
Management of complex engineering projects, including personnel, safety, quality, scope, schedule, and budget management to ensure successful outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Manage all stages of the project lifecycle for highly complex projects or programs, ensuring deliverables meet schedule requirements. Independently own large projects with minimal support.
- Coordinate internal and external resources for all project activities.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, code requirements, and stakeholder inputs during project initiation through design.
- Develop and manage design documents, project presentations, funding requests, budgets, forecasts, bid documents, and evaluate proposals.
- Collaborate with construction engineers, vendors, and service providers on contracts, invoices, construction sequencing, and site outages.
- Review and contribute to project documentation, including drawings, specifications, reports, asset and risk registries, budgets, schedules, and variances.
- Perform occasional emergency responses outside normal hours.
- Support and mentor lower-level project engineers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in managing electrical, mechanical, structural, or water projects within the utility, waterways, building systems, distributed energy, or electric vehicle sectors.
- Successful track record managing large technical and commercial projects.
- Collaborative, team-oriented, with strong stakeholder relationship skills.
- Ability to develop project plans, timelines, and coordinate among diverse stakeholders.
- Experience with applicable codes, standards, regulations, budgets, project management software, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, prepare specifications, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience, including at least 3 in project/construction management, preferably in the utility or related industries.
- Preferred certifications include NYS Engineer in Training (EIT), Project Management Professional (PMP), Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 25% travel within NY State.
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb power system apparatuses.
- Travel to vendor facilities worldwide for construction support and equipment inspections.
- Availability for outside work hours as needed.
The salary range varies by location: White Plains ($119,620 - $152,090) and St. Lawrence ($95,470 - $131,270).
