Job summary

Mortenson seeks an experienced Project Engineer II to coordinate with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. You will review plans, manage field coordination issues, and ensure schedule adherence while maintaining confidentiality.

The role includes reviewing specs, managing submittals, permits, and closeout processes, mentoring field engineers, and ensuring safety and compliance across the team. A degree in construction-related field and 3+ years' experience are required.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret project plans and specs for subcontractors and craft personnel
  • Implement quality plans and manage testing/inspection processes
  • Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fees and expenses
  • Develop and maintain tracking lists and logs (materials, test/inspection, non-conformance)
  • Manage and distribute contract documents; handle electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence)
  • Manage submittals: register, approvals, transmittals, packaging, reviews
  • Expedite submittals to align with project schedule and coordinate with subs
  • Support project closeout: post revisions and update as-built docs
  • Mentor and evaluate field engineers; ensure safety/compliance across team

Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer II with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Project Engineer will review, provide analysis, management, and resolution of field coordination issues with project team members and participants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons

Implement the pre-construction quality plan and manage testing and inspection processes

Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses

Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, and Non-Conformance Report

Manage, create, and distribute contract documents; establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence)

Manage submittals: set up register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing

Expedite submittals to align with project schedule; communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers

Incorporate processes and procedures for project closeout phase; define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents

Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers; determine alternative work methods as needed

Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members; maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Construction , Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management

Minimum of three years related construction experience

Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks

Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices

Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills

Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills

The base pay range for this role is $93,400 - $126,100.

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
