Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an entry-level Project Engineer to jump-start a career in project management on multi-million dollar commercial MEP projects. You will assist a project manager in budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating design-build efforts, including procurement of equipment and subcontracts.

The role develops skills in estimating, scheduling, and coordination while supporting field labor and document control within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management; 1–3 years in related field.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings; track labor feedback accurately.
• Knowledge of HVAC equipment and operating principles (e.g., VAV, CV, refrigeration cycle).
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including CAD drawings and submittals.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; basic computer skills.
• Experience with document control and submittals; ability to coordinate with vendors.
• Ability to prepare equipment delivery logs and track order status.
• Strong communication with vendors, suppliers, and field foremen.

Position Summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to jump start your career path in project management? If so, Southland Industries’ Project Engineer position is for you! In this role, you will work on exciting, multi-million dollar commercial MEP projects as you develop your skills in estimating, scheduling and project management within the design-build construction process. This is the entry point for a career in project management. Primary responsibility is to assist a project manager or managers to successfully coordinate a project using the necessary engineering, labor, equipment, materials, tools, and subcontracted services.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management, 1-3 years experience in related field.
• Basic skills that will include inquiring, reviewing and printing job cost reports, labor feedback entry and purchase order entry.
• Basic knowledge of HVAC design to include types of equipment utilized in the industry as well as general understanding of system operations (i.e. variable air, constant volume, refrigeration cycle.)
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings and identify work installed to track labor feedback accurately.
• Ability to prepare equipment delivery log and track status of these orders.
• Competent with general business writing and public speaking.
• Has competency in basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers to procure, manage and update the submittal process.
• Ability to communicate with field foremen to write and track RFI’s both internally with our design department and externally with the architect or other designers
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including CAD drawings, Blueprints, Submittals, etc.
