Job description

Job Title: Project Engineer - Heavy Civil/Bridge

Location: Tampa, Florida

Our client is a leading self-performing heavy civil contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across the Southeast. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging bridge and heavy civil projects that demand precision, safety, and collaboration. As a Project Engineer, you'll play a vital role in bridging technical expertise and operational execution, contributing to high-profile projects while advancing your career in construction management.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Tampa. We are also hiring in Jacksonville if that location is preferred. In addition to Project Engineers, we are hiring for Field Engineers and Assistant Project Managers. Please email rachel.reid@talently.com to discuss these open roles.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, and procurement.
  • Coordinate with field staff, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure project compliance.
  • Track quantities, budgets, and job progress; assist in forecasting and cost analysis.
  • Support QA/QC and safety compliance initiatives on site.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and assist with closeout procedures.
Must-Have Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (bridge, roadway, structural concrete or steel preferred).
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and field operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or Primavera is a plus.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Experience on DOT, bridge, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Background in self-perform work involving heavy concrete or structural steel.
  • Familiarity with FDOT standards and specifications.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and vendor management.
  • Experience with project forecasting and cost analysis.
