Project Engineer

Reports to: Site Manager

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

1 or more years’ of employment as a Field Engineer with Blattner or equivalent experience.

Position Summary

The Project Engineer directs the daily operations of the project site under the supervision of the Site Manager. The Project Engineer supervises the Field Engineer(s), Quality personnel, and Project Administrative Assistants; ensuring Blattner processes are learned, developed, and demonstrated. The Project Engineer sets goals and objectives for the team’s achievement of operational results and partners with the project team to understand multiple work disciplines along with being a leader in cost control, quality processes, safe work practices, quantity tracking, job book, project documentation, procurement, schedule, job book/project documentation, RFI, client satisfaction, daily job site needs, and work activities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Facilitates project-specific quality plan and its execution across assigned scopes — coordinating inspections, resolving non-conformances, and maintaining auditable QC documentation. Works directly with field supervisors to integrate quality standards into daily work planning. Escalates material or fabrication defects through supplier and procurement channels before they become project problems.
  • Supervises the Field Engineers, Project Administrative Assistants, and Quality personnel, directing their work assignments and holding regular Coaching Discussions. Provides performance feedback, sets development parameters, and delivers training (including corporate processes, cost accounting, tracking, timecards, contracts, hire/screen paperwork, and division of responsibility) to develop the team to a proficient and productive level. Provides input on hiring, performance management, advancement, and disciplinary decisions for direct reports, with recommendations given significant weight in final determinations.
  • Ensures site compliance with IRA requirements, partnering with applicable subcontractors, legal, payroll, HR, etc.
  • Sets goals and targets for the team around daily production and cost control and oversees team performance against those goals by ensuring production, cost data, and safety are collected from the prior day and shared with supervisors for purposes of analysis and planning. Shall have and demonstrate intimate knowledge of quantity tracking and knowing the cost of the work.
  • Partners with Project Manager and Site Manager to track progress of project and financial status by analyzing/monitoring hourly cost and production; comparing initial project cost budget to actual daily cost and production data. Identify alternate methods of construction and evaluate costs to the original budget.
  • Partners with Project Manager and Site Manager on the collection of information for change orders, pay quantities, and the estimation of changes on the job.
  • Ensures the Field Engineer creates the criteria and plans for the project Plan of the Day meeting.
  • Will have the ability to look ahead on the work, create/update schedule indicators, and implements a full project schedule. Utilize corporate scheduling programs when updating project schedule. Utilize existing schedule indicators and worksheets and Field Leader Standard Work Instructions (SWI).
  • Coordinates and schedules subcontractors, vendors, and material suppliers. Oversee and assist with preparation of the subcontractor/vendor progress payments according to the work performed and contract Schedule of Values.
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and co-workers to strengthen company position. Assists the site management team in displaying and promoting the Desired End States, company mission, values and culture while representing the company in a professional manner.
  • Ensures the Field Engineer applies for and completes local permits as specified by the contract and monitors borrow and waste agreements.
  • Analyzes and interprets field information by frequently visiting the field to collect data and become familiar with Standard Work Instructions (SWI) methods, and productivity.
  • Ensures closeout activities are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensures jobsite office networking services are set-up (copiers/printers/scanners, phone lines, etc.).

  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks. Driving & Travel Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Expected to re-locate to the project site for the duration of each construction project they are assigned to.

$94,707.00 - $137,326.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
