  • A B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 4–6 years of experience with C and C++ software development.
  • Knowledge of assembly programming.
  • Experience using microcontrollers and peripherals (timers, ADCs, UART, SPI, I2C).
  • Experience with closed‑loop control and feedback systems.
  • Experience with motor drive systems and motor control algorithms (Field Oriented Control).
  • Understanding of MCU peripherals (timers, GPIO, watchdogs, ADC, UART, DMA).
  • Strong embedded software concepts: hard real‑time processing, RTOS, scheduling, multitasking, interrupts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, implement, and test motor control functionality in embedded systems.
  • Provide technical leadership for electronic systems, components, and sub‑assemblies.

The Job

As a Project Engineer, Electrification and Advanced Technology Group, you’ll be part of our Electrification and Advanced Technology Group (EAT) team working as an on-site employee. We are co-located with our TOOLS and OUTDOOR teams at our engineering headquarters in Towson, Maryland. We are a small, hands-on, diverse team of dedicated engineers responsible for advancing electrification through our core business. We work closely with marketing, engineering, and business leaders to identify emerging needs, design and prototype tools that meet our customers’ high expectations, and create robust tests that ensure our products perform in the toughest environments. Our engineers own every aspect of the process along the way.

  • Design and develop advanced motor control algorithms, including sensorless motor control, for proof‑of‑concept prototypes.
  • Design, simulate, implement, and test new motor control functionality in embedded systems.
  • Provide technical leadership in achieving performance and technology team objectives related to electronic systems, components, and sub‑assemblies.
  • Develop electrification solutions for power tools and outdoor equipment as a member of the Electrification and Advanced Technology team.
  • Document designs and technical decisions clearly so others can understand, maintain, and expand upon them.
  • Communicate with internal customers and stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into engineering solutions.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules to track progress and ensure objectives are met within deadlines.
  • Train and mentor junior team members.
  • Stay current on technological advancements in semiconductor and motor technologies relevant to Stanley Black & Decker.

  • Experience using microcontrollers and associated peripherals such as timers, ADCs, and communication interfaces including UART, SPI, and I2C.
  • Experience with closed‑loop control and feedback systems.
  • Experience with motor drive systems and a strong understanding of common motor control algorithms, including Field Oriented Control.
  • Understanding of common microcontroller peripherals such as timers, GPIO, watchdogs, ADC, UART, and DMA.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software concepts, including hard real‑time processing, process scheduling, cooperative multitasking, interrupt processing, race conditions, and RTOS.
  • Experience with both hardware and software development.
  • Experience using electronic equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters.
  • Experience with debugging, either with in‑circuit debuggers or other methods.
  • A strong sense of ownership and the ability to work diligently to resolve technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence the organization and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • A willingness to support other team members in resolving issues when needed.
