Job summary

EMC Mechanical Services seeks a Project Engineer in Richmond, VA to support project execution from turnover to completion. This development role pairs you with Project Managers and Superintendents to learn budgeting, scheduling, submittals, and setup for commercial mechanical projects.

You’ll split time between field and office, review documents, manage procurement, and track site budgets. The position offers a strong path toward project ownership within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in construction management, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong analytical ability and comfort reading schedules, specs and budgets.
• Highly organized with strong written documentation habits.
• Willingness to split time between field and office.
• Clear, professional communication with PMs, Superintendents, vendors and trade partners.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; SAGE experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide scope and construction documents to the Superintendent for review before turnover.
• Collaborate to develop construction plans and manage scheduling needs and open issues.
• Evaluate construction schedules for lead times and labor needs; forecast based on KPIs.
• Review job setup in the Sage system to ensure accurate population.
• Coordinate with Superintendents to schedule deliveries and manage site logistics.
• Procure and review project submittals; maintain a comprehensive submittal log.
• Conduct site visits, monitor budget vs. actuals, and track material costs.
• Perform close-out evaluations and capture lessons learned.
