EMC Mechanical Services is seeking a Project Engineer to support project execution from turnover through completion on our Construction Team. This development role offers on-the-job learning alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, and Production Managers, building the foundation for future Project Manager ownership.

The role focuses on schedule evaluation, submittal management, budget tracking, and job setup, with a clear path toward full project ownership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in construction management, engineering or related technical field.
• Strong analytical ability; comfortable reading schedules, specs and budgets.
• Highly organized with strong written documentation habits.
• Comfortable splitting time between the field and office.
• Clear, professional communicator working with PMs, superintendents, vendors and trade partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide scope and construction documents to Superintendent for turnover review.
• Organize and format sold project information per department standard.
• Develop construction plan with Production Manager and Superintendent; identify prefabrication opportunities and scheduling needs.
• Create and manage a plan for issue resolution.
• Evaluate construction schedules for lead times and labor needs; assess impacts.
• Review job setup in SAGE for accurate population based on sales estimates.
• Coordinate with Superintendents to schedule deliveries of tools, materials, and equipment; manage site logistics.
• Procure and review project submittals; maintain a comprehensive submittal log with dates and approvals.
• Onsite ~75% of the week for hands-on learning; evaluate budget vs actual and monitor costs.
• Conduct post-mortems on completed projects to capture lessons learned and improvements.

Who We’re Hiring

EMC is seeking a Project Engineer to support project execution from initial turnover through completion on our Construction Team. This is a development role: the Project Engineer works directly alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, and Production Managers to learn the technical and analytical foundation of running a commercial mechanical project — schedule evaluation, submittal management, budget tracking, and job setup — with a clear path toward becoming a Project Manager. This role suits a candidate with a construction management, engineering, or technical background who wants hands‑on field and office experience building toward full project ownership.

What You’ll Do

Documentation & Review

Provide the scope and construction documents to the Superintendent for review prior to formal turnover meeting.

Organize and format sold project information according to department standard.

Construction Planning

Collaborate with the Production Manager and Superintendent to develop a construction plan – prefabrication opportunities, current project evaluation, scheduling needs, and open issues.

Create and manage a solution plan for issue resolution.

Schedule Evaluation

Thoroughly evaluate construction schedules to identify lead time issues and labor needs, assessing potential scheduling impacts.

If no schedule is provided, forecast labor needs based on project KPIs (e.g., concrete pour, structural steel installation).

Job Setup & Systems

Review job setup in SAGE to ensure accurate population based on the sales team’s estimate.

Procurement & Logistics

Coordinate with Superintendents to schedule deliveries of shop‑rented tools, materials, and equipment, and manage site logistics for those deliveries.

Documentation Management

Procure and review project‑specific submittals from vendors, ensuring accuracy against construction documents and specifications.

Maintain a comprehensive submittal log – spec sections, request/return dates, approvals, revisions, order/ship dates, tracking numbers, arrival dates, and contracts.

Site Visits & Budget Monitoring

Onsite roughly 75% of the week – hands‑on, in‑the‑field learning.

Use site visit information to evaluate budget‑vs‑actual reports and ensure accurate project billing; monitor production rates and material cost codes.

Close‑Out

Conduct post‑mortem evaluations on closed projects to assess outcomes, capture lessons learned, and recommend improvements.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred – or equivalent field/industry experience.
• Strong analytical ability – comfortable reading schedules, specs, and budgets, not just tracking them.
• Highly organized, with strong written documentation habits.
• Comfortable splitting time between the field and office.
• Clear, professional communicator – works directly with PMs, Superintendents, vendors and trade partners.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• SAGE experience is a plus but not required.

Driving Requirements

• Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license.
• Must have positive points on state driving record.
• Must be at least 21 years of age unless company approval is granted.
• Must not have had a DUI, DWI, or reckless driving conviction in the last five years.
• All driving records are run as part of our pre‑employment process and reviewed at the discretion of the Safety Team.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to crawl, kneel, squat, and climb.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, unassisted.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions

Primarily office‑based with regular site visits to monitor project progress.

May require occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
