Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Project Engineer – Exercise in Houston to join the NASA HX5 team. You will develop and maintain test procedures, assemble and test hardware, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with facilities for external tests to support spaceflight programs.

The role requires a engineering degree with 2–5 years of related experience, strong communication, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams and NASA customers. Onsite work with a robust benefits package is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2–5 years of related experience.
• Experience with test procedure development is preferred.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with limited supervision.
• Excellent written and oral communication with customers and management at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Generate TPS, DR, and DTP as needed.
• Maintain baseline test configuration and document changes.
• Create assembly and test procedures and test hardware.
• Troubleshoot hardware failures and rework as needed.
• Design and evaluate test fixtures.
• Coordinate with test facilities for external tests (EMI, Acoustic, Vibration, Thermal).
• Track procurements and generate verification documents.
• Support certification product assessments with NASA Engineering.
• Prepare flight articles for launch and coordinate flight logistics.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer – Exercise to join the team with HX5, a teammate company!

The Project Engineer will:

• Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
• Maintain and ensure baseline test configuration and document any configuration changes.
• Generate assembly and test procedures.
• Assemble and test hardware.
• Perform hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware or test support hardware, and rework as necessary.
• Design, assemble, and evaluate test fixtures as necessary.
• Coordinate with test facilities and generate documentation for external tests (i.e. EMI, Acoustic, Vibration, Thermal Cycle).
• Place and carefully track progress of procurements.
• Generate verification documentation and review design memos, test reports, etc.
• Work with NASA Engineering to manage the assessment of certification products.
• Prepare flight articles for launch and coordinate flight logistics.
• Work in a team environment, and report to project lead or project manager for technical support, task assignment, and processes.
• Facilitate across various stakeholders to achieve integration of program objectives.
• Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
• Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requisition Qualifications:

• Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school.
• Experience with test procedure development.
• Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
• Self-motivated, team player and adaptable to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.
• Prior experience with hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels.
• Ability to prepare written documents.
• Familiarity with common hand tools and proficiency using them to perform assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting on mechanical systems.
• Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electric systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

Preferences:

• Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
• Experience with hardware processing for spaceflight.
• Previous intern experience at JSC or other NASA center.
• Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
