Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Project Engineer - Flight Projects to join the Barrios team in Houston, TX, supporting NASA program flight hardware. You will develop project documentation, coordinate with design and analysis teams, inspect hardware, and assist in test rig construction and data analysis.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and 2–5 years of related experience, with CAD and MS Office proficiency and the ability to present findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in engineering or related area.
  • Experience with requirements development and verification criteria.
  • Familiarity with space hardware design, drawings, and material selection.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and present at meetings.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project documentation and track drawings, procurements, and risks.
  • Collaborate with design team and analysts to meet requirements.
  • Inspect hardware upon receipt to verify against drawings/models.
  • Build test rigs and analyze data from tests.
  • Support configuration control of project documents.
  • Develop test procedures and coordinate with NASA/JSC for flight certification.
  • Coordinate with ISS vehicle office for integrated operation concepts.
  • Prepare presentations and report progress to team lead.
  • Work in a team environment and perform other duties as needed.

We have an exciting opportunity for aProject Engineer - Flight Projectsto join the team with Barrios, a teammate company!

The Project Engineer will focus on:

  • Developing project documentation and maintaining status of drawings, procurements, risks. Etc.
  • Working with design team and analyst to ensure project requirements are achieved.
  • Inspection of hardware upon receipt to verify match with fabrication drawing/models
  • Test rig and equipment buildup as needed
  • Data analysis of test results
  • Assist project management with configuration control of project documentation
  • Development of test procedures including working with various organizations across JSC for flight certification of hardware.
  • Working with the ISS community, specifically the vehicle office, to develop integrated operation con-ops
  • Develop presentations.
  • Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues and for support.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Experience with the development of requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria.
  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware systems
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
Requisition Preferences:
  • Previous experience in designing and building EVA related unique hardware
  • Previous testing experience
  • Knowledge/use of CAD modeling software
  • Familiarity with machine shop techniques and processing hardware through the manufacturing process.
  • Ability to perform hands on test buildup, data processing, and documentation including test plans and reports
  • Experience with NASA flight hardware certification process highly desired.
  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Ability to work independently

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
