Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Software Engineering and DevOps Section Manager to lead a 40-person team under the JETSII contract in the Houston area. You will report to the Spacecraft Software, Analysis and Services Group Manager and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables for NASA projects.

You will drive personnel performance, recruitment, and resource planning while interfacing with NASA leads and other contractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; advanced degrees encouraged.
  • 10–15 years of related experience typical for this role.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills with customers.
  • Project management experience required; leadership in large teams.
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and terminating personnel.
  • Experience fostering collaboration among teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with collaboration tools such as Jira, Teams, Webex, SharePoint.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.

We are seeking a Software Engineering and DevOps Section Manager under the JETSII contract.

The Software Engineering and DevOps Section Manager will:

  • Report to the Spacecraft Software, Analysis and Services Group Manager. The position is responsible for the management of approximately 40 Employees.
  • Maintain a positive, constructive, professional relationship with the NASA customers and other NASA support contractors
  • Interface with NASA Software Engineering Leads & Software Engineering oversight teams
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, and coordination skills
  • Perform duties as a Section Manager:
  • Ensure employees in functional areas follow established policies and procedures
  • Ensure employees generate finished work products under time and budgetary constraints
  • Review and approve timecards on a weekly basis
  • Review and approve travel requests
  • Conduct personnel performance reviews
  • Resolve employee performance issues
  • Ensure proper team reporting on tasking
  • Perform recruiting activities
  • Ensure personnel are recognized for accomplishments
  • Coordinate personnel allocations with Division Technical Managers and Task Order Managers
  • Conduct routine customer reviews for employee tasking and performance
  • Communicate resource management status to senior JETS management
  • Work in a fast-paced, Agile environment Promote a culture of caring and safety
  • Demonstrate a Servant/Leader approach to management
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as required
Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude with a history of effectively interacting with managers and customers
  • Project management experience
  • Experience performing employee management duties including recruiting, developing, and terminating personnel
  • Experience fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Proficiency with team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Webex, Skype, SharePoint, Jira
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
  • Ability to prepare written documents/presentations and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Must have strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to oversee a team of professionals working on multiple small and large projects concurrently
  • Self-starter who can understand and absorb new concepts quickly
  • Must be local to the JSC area and willing to work offsite at Amentum building and onsite at Johnson Space Center on a regular basis
Requisition Preferences:
  • Experience leading a software development project across the full development life cycle
  • Experience in Safety Critical Human-Rated Software Development
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with NASA/JSC
  • 10 years of experience with NASA/JSC flight software processes
  • Prior experience with government contract task order management
  • Prior experience in developing schedules, budgets, and project plans

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements
