Project Engineer – Energy Storage Systems

Location: Irvine, CA | Onsite | Travel Required

Want to take ownership of engineering projects from initial design through installation, commissioning, and operation?

Join a growing energy technology company developing intelligent battery energy storage systems that help commercial buildings use traditional and renewable power more efficiently. As a Project Engineer, you'll lead real-world deployments across multiple customer sites, combining electrical engineering, construction coordination, and hands-on problem-solving to bring advanced energy systems online.

This is an opportunity to make a direct impact in a growing company with major customer contracts, expanding deployment opportunities, and equity participation.

What You'll Do:
  • Own end-to-end project delivery, from site feasibility and engineering through permitting, construction, commissioning, and operational handoff.
  • Coordinate electrical, civil, and utility design, contractors, customers, MEP engineers, and local permitting authorities (AHJs).
  • Interpret and review electrical wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, installation schematics, and site plans.
  • Oversee field installation, system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and final commissioning.
  • Develop installation documentation and standardize site designs to make future deployments faster, safer, and more cost-effective.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, project risks, and multiple concurrent deployments.
  • Use AI tools and process improvements to streamline project tracking, documentation, and field execution.
What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical infrastructure, building systems, construction engineering, or related project engineering roles.
  • Ability to interpret and review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and installation schematics.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and applicable building and electrical codes.
  • Strong project management, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
  • An ownership mindset and the ability to manage multiple projects while making sound technical decisions.
Additional experience that will set you apart:
  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS), power distribution, industrial switchgear, or similar electrical infrastructure.
  • AutoCAD or other CAD and site-layout tools.
  • System commissioning, electrical diagnostics, and field troubleshooting.
  • Python or similar scripting for testing and automation.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license or PMP certification.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Own the outcome: Lead deployments from concept to commissioning, with meaningful responsibility for project success.
  • Build what's next: Help standardize and scale the deployment of innovative energy storage technology.
  • Join at a pivotal stage: Work with an engineering-driven company experiencing commercial growth and securing significant customer contracts.
  • Share in the upside: Equity participation and performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Strong benefits: 100% employee medical, dental, and vision premiums covered, 50% family premium coverage, an HSA with employer contributions, and unlimited PTO. A 401(k) with company match is planned to begin July 1.
