Fisher Associates is seeking an Energy Project Engineer—Civil in Canonsburg, PA to lead civil design for utility and renewable energy projects, including pipelines, substations, and energy storage facilities.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage design from concept through construction, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required.
• 10–15 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in utility or renewable energy design.
• Licensed PE or ability to obtain licensure.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with linear utility corridor projects.
• Familiarity with local zoning, DOT permitting and SEQR processes.

Energy Project Engineer - Civil - Canonsburg, PA

Canonsburg, PA is a strong market for utility and energy infrastructure professionals, with the Pittsburgh region supporting continued demand for civil engineers who understand linear utility corridors, land development, permitting, and infrastructure design. This opportunity is especially well suited to engineers who want to apply their technical expertise to utility and renewable energy projects across Pennsylvania and surrounding markets.

As a Project Engineer on Fisher's Energy Group, you’ll lead civil engineering design for utility and renewable energy projects, including pipelines, transmission lines, solar and wind farms, substations, and Battery Energy Storage facilities. You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams, utilities, renewable energy developers, and infrastructure owners to move projects from design through construction.

You’ll have the opportunity to apply your experience to visible energy infrastructure projects, take ownership of technical decisions, and help develop the next generation of engineers. The role combines hands‑on civil design with permitting, construction support, quality control, and collaboration across project teams.

What You’ll Do

• Lead civil engineering technical design tasks for utility and renewable energy projects.
• Develop design plans, drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
• Provide technical support during construction through site visits, design clarification, and design review.
• Prepare SWPPPs and stormwater management designs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate engineering tasks with project scope, schedule, and budget and support project managers with schedules, documentation, and client presentations.
• Maintain accurate project records, including design documents, progress reports, and budget information.
• Ensure designs comply with state and local regulations, safety codes, and industry standards while providing quality control, direction, and technical support to project team members.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders and mentor junior engineers in project work and technical development.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• 10–15 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in utility or renewable energy design.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain it.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with linear utility corridor projects.
• Experience with local zoning and planning reviews, DOT permitting, and NYS Environmental Quality Reviews (SEQR).
• Understanding of all aspects of civil design plan preparation and construction bid packages.
• Proven ability to deliver quality work through critical thinking, problem‑solving, and sound judgment.
• Ability to own projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deliverables and deadlines.
• Strong collaboration, communication, integrity, respect, and active listening skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond constructively to feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with MicroStation.
• Familiarity with the ORES permitting process.
• Experience with land development, utility, or renewable energy projects, including design and permitting.
• Experience with PADEP permitting and the local PA Township SALDO process.
• Experience providing technical direction, quality control, motivation, and mentorship to project team members.

Compensation + Benefits

Salary range: $100,000-$130,000
