Job summary

Giffels Webster in Detroit invites a Project Engineer to join our headquarters, working on urban land development projects that revitalize the City of Detroit. You will work independently on tasks under the guidance of the Partner in charge/Project Manager.

This role offers in-person collaboration with potential hybrid scheduling, a pathway to professional development, and a team that values context-sensitive solutions and high-quality project delivery.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited civil engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years of civil engineering experience.
  • Experience in AutoCAD software.
  • Preferred: Civil3D and roadway/water/wastewater design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Geometrics and grading design tasks.
  • Prepare pavement design and stormwater management plans.
  • Design utilities (storm, sanitary and water).
  • Develop traffic control plans and details.
  • Create record drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare permit applications and cost estimates.
  • Attend meetings and conduct field visits.
  • Perform construction administration tasks.

Giffels Webster has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Detroit Headquarters, working on several high-profile urban land development projects that are contributing to the revitalization of the City of Detroit.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently on various engineering projects. You will work in a team environment led by the Partner in charge/Project Manager on a variety of tasks.

Typical responsibilities include:
  • Geometrics
  • Grading
  • Pavement design
  • Soil erosion and sediment control
  • Utility (storm, sanitary and water) design
  • Stormwater management and green infrastructure design
  • Traffic control plans
  • Details
  • Record drawings and specifications
  • Prepare permit applications and cost estimates
  • Attend meetings
  • Conduct field visits
  • Perform construction administration tasks

In-person collaboration and mentoring are paramount to the success of this position. With experience and the approval of your supervisor, you could earn the ability to work a hybrid schedule, up to two days per week remotely and three days in the office.

Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
  • You have a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited university or equivalent amount of applicable experience
  • At least 1-3 years of Civil Engineering experience
  • Must have experience in AutoCAD software
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience in Civil3D
  • Experience with road, storm, sanitary and water design
  • Experience in Bluebeam
  • Exposure to Municipal and/or Private Development projects
