Job summary

SB Energy is seeking a Data Center Project Engineer near Austin, TX to lead coordination between GCs, stakeholders, and internal teams for data center projects. You will establish tracking for design changes, RFIs, and change orders with regional leadership oversight.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Engineering/Construction or equivalent experience, 1–3 years in construction or PM, and knowledge of critical facility electrical systems. On-site with competitive compensation and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• Equivalent construction experience or strong technical background may substitute for the degree.
• Experience in data center or mission critical facilities.
• 1–3 years in construction or project management.
• Knowledge of electrical systems in data center operations: UPS, switchgear, PDUs, batteries, generators.
• Experience in vendor negotiation and management for data center projects.

Job description

As a Data Center Project Engineer, you will be a part of a creative, diverse team tasked with solving complex problems constructing Data Centers for SB Energy.

Key Responsibilities

• Establishing communication and coordination across a data center region’s general contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams.
• Develop and maintain a tracking system for design changes, RFI’s (requests for information), and change orders and dashboard and track this information for regional leadership review. Include tracking status of priority and due dates.
• Requesting and reviewing MOPs (Method of Procedure) for proper detail, necessity, and risk.
• On-boarding new vendors for badging and orientation.
• Updating project management software with milestone dates, correspondence, and documents.
• Monitor delivery of owner furnished material to site.
• Compiling and storing construction data from vendors.
• Managing checklist including various checklists including substantial completion checks, safety, and quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
• Equivalent construction experience or a strong technical background such as aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar disciplines may be considered in place of a directly aligned degree.
• Experience working in a data center or mission critical facility (example: hospital, military facility, public safety facility, etc.)
• 1-3 years of experience in construction or project management.
• Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations that include but are not limited to utility substation feeds, transformers, switchgear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA/VRLA batteries and associated systems, diesel/gas turbine generators and related fuel systems, Surge Suppression, Active Harmonic Filtering, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems or SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of mission critical systems (data centers, hospitals, power plants, military facilities, etc.).
• Experience in vendor negotiation and management for data center or upgrade construction contracts.

• Base Pay - $70,000 - $115,000
• The pay range mentioned above is a guideline. We tailor each offer based on your unique skills, experience, location, and market benchmarks—while ensuring internal parity across our teams.
