CTL Engineering is hiring a Project Engineer | Construction Services for roadway/ODOT projects.

CTL Engineering (www.ctleng.com) is an award-winning, full-service consulting engineering firm with (15) locations across OH, IN, WV, KY, NC, SC, and VA, with a rich history spanning over (98) years. We provide civil/site design, land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for a Construction Project Engineer who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration and inspection services/testing for state (ODOT), county, and local clients. You’ll oversee and manage a wide range of projects, including those in roadway/bridge, water/wastewater, aviation, commercial, municipal utility/infrastructure sectors, and vertical (building) construction projects. You’ll leverage your expertise in infrastructure construction and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies. This role involves projects through every stage of construction, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.

  • This position will utilize your experience while learning new skills to assist clients through our cross-functional team dynamic and company culture.
  • You will be involved in all project aspects, including design/study development and site/field visits during design and construction.

Highlights:

  • This position will include a mix of field work, laboratory work, and office work.
  • This position works independently on broad projects under the direction of a Dept. Manager while managing a team of direct reports or projects.
  • Projects are typically in the central Ohio region – usually within a @60-minute travel radius. Frequent travel within this region is expected, but overnight stays are very rare.
  • A stipend for personal vehicle use or a company vehicle may be provided, based on the assignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of construction administration and inspection services for infrastructure projects:
  1. Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county, and local clients.
  2. Manage roadway/bridge projects and municipal utility or infrastructure projects.
  3. Work with the Marketing Department as a key contributor to the technical aspects of proposals.
  4. Monitor and enforce standards and specifications.
  5. Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents on various infrastructure projects.
  6. Travel to project sites to inspect construction projects, ensuring contractor compliance with specifications and plans.
  7. Manage, coordinate, supervise, and provide technical support and direction to Technicians and Inspectors performing inspection work and materials testing.
  8. Oversee on-site project inspections, including soil compaction tests, concrete field tests, and verification of steel placement.
  9. Verify plan quantities and calculations with bid plans.
  10. Prepare and maintain project records and reports.
  11. Notify the Project Manager about project status and issues.
  12. Review project submittals, including CPM schedules.
  • Communicate with clients on deliverables.
  • Assist with developing project proposals and construction cost estimates.
  • Assist with developing and managing schedules, budgets, and quality of work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of civil and engineering principles, reporting, analysis, and team management.
  • Extensive experience in the construction industry and with engineering equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Technical skills and understanding of P&L.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain quality.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and train others and work as part of a team.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Good customer service skills, professionalism, and client relationship-building abilities.
  • Quality-minded and client-focused.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
  • 2+ years of applicable experience; new grads (0-2 yrs) are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in construction material inspection and testing is a plus.
  • EI certification or PE licensure is a plus but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
