Job description

Project Engineer is the technical source of information for the project and should have thorough knowledge of construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. Maintains an effective and professional working relationship with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. May assist with the supervision and/or training of Field Engineers. The position includes three steps (I, II, and Senior), providing a progression in skill and experience. Step I is the entry level for individuals with a minimum of experience in this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of the project management plan components (scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality, safety, risk) to ensure successful execution and understand the change management process.
  • Develop procurement schedule and integrate it with the project CPM schedule; procure necessary materials and equipment; coordinate submittals; review submittals for compliance.
  • Maintain understanding of prime contract, subcontracts, purchase order agreements, and allowance items; administer budgeting and cost control to keep the project within approved budget.
  • Maintain "As-built" contract documents and compile close‑out requirements including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other specifications.
  • Participate in concrete and asphalt concrete form design, equipment selection, and takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities as required; design concrete.
  • Plan, acquire, develop and supervise project team; ensure execution.
  • Prepare and maintain quantity reporting mechanisms; coordinate agendas and minutes for all meetings; maintain project logs.
  • Prepare and review change orders; maintain change order log; distribute documents; prepare cost control budget adjustments.
  • Prevent or mitigate claims by identifying potential claims, quantifying, and resolving them timely.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards and interdependence with other functional units.
  • Four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent technical training and related experience, plus a minimum of three to four years of similar construction engineering experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines; capable of supervising and/or training Field Engineers.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, use telephone, computer, email, and electronic devices.
  • Reach above shoulder heights and below the waist frequently; stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally.
  • Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently; lift, push or pull objects occasionally.
  • Stand, sit, walk short distances for up to the duration of a shift/workday; climb stairs, ladders occasionally.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
