Job Summary

Senior Project Engineer is the technical source of information for the project and should have a thorough knowledge of the construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. Maintains an effective and professional working relationship with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. May assist with the supervision and/or training of Field Engineers. This position includes three 'steps' (I, II, and Senior), which provide for a progression of skill and experience. The 'Senior' step is used for employees with more than 6 years of experience and/or experience on significantly larger or more complex projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of the components of the project management plan (PMP), including scope, procurement, environmental, time management, financial, quality, safety, and risk management plans to ensure successful project execution.
  • Respond to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders.
  • Develop a procurement schedule and integrate it with the project CPM schedule; procure necessary material and equipment; coordinate submittals with other trades; review all submittals for compliance with the contract documents.
  • Understand the prime contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, allowances, contract drawings, and specifications; administer budgeting and cost control to keep the project within the approved budget.
  • Maintain "As‑built" contract documents; compile close‑out requirements, including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other job‑specific items required by the specifications.
  • Participate in concrete form design and related equipment selection; assist with takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities as required.
  • Plan, acquire, develop and supervise project team members to ensure relentless execution of the project.
  • Prepare and maintain quantity reporting mechanisms; coordinate agendas and prepare minutes for all meetings; maintain various project logs.
  • Prepare and review change orders, including time extensions, and maintain the change order log; distribute documents to company and subcontractor field personnel.
  • Prevent and mitigate claims; quantify and resolve the effects of claims on a timely basis.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, and interdependence between functional units.
  • Four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent technical training and at least 3–4 years of similar construction engineering experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines; capable of supervising and/or training Field Engineer positions if required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.).
  • May reach above shoulder heights; may kneel, bend, stoop, or pull objects up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
  • May use telephone, computer, email, or other electronic devices to communicate.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and procedures; occasionally climb stairs or ladders; use hands to grasp, lift or carry objects frequently; lift, push or pull objects up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Will sit, stand or walk for the entire shift; will interact with people frequently during the workday.
