Job summary

KBS, Inc. in the Richmond, VA area is seeking a Project Engineer to support planning, coordination, and technical execution of commercial construction projects.

You will analyze activities, manage RFIs and submittals, assist with scheduling, cost tracking, and site safety, and work closely with the Project Manager to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience with a general contractor in a project engineering or field superintendent capacity.
• Four-year degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency with Procore and standard Windows tools for reporting and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Analyze critical project activities and milestone dates; anticipate issues and help develop solutions.
• Create and manage submittal and RFI logs; review submittals for cross-trade coordination.
• Maintain a Record Set of contract documents and assist with scheduling.
• Support project manager with purchasing, invoices, change orders, and site safety programs.
• Conduct regular site walks and document progress with photographs.

Job description

We are currently seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and technical execution of commercial construction projects. This role is essential in helping projects meet key milestones, maintain quality standards, and operate efficiently.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Analyze critical project activities and milestone dates; anticipate potential issues and help develop solutions
• Create and manage submittal and RFI logs; solicit, review, and verify submittals, ensuring product compliance and cross-trade coordination
• Maintain an updated and accurate Record Set of contract documents
• Assist with drafting and updating the project schedule
• Generate, track, and maintain complete and accurate RFIs
• Review and verify job cost status reports
• Document verbal agreements or conversations with subcontractors, owners, and design partners
• Assist the Project Manager with purchasing, invoice approvals, subcontractor/supplier quotes, change orders, quality control, and site safety program administration
• Review subcontractor pay applications
• Assist with developing meeting minutes and documentation
• Conduct regular site walks and take weekly jobsite photographs
• Review, catalog, and archive project files at project completion

Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and presentations
• Strong organizational, planning, and leadership abilities
• Proficiency in Windows-based applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Procore Construction Management Software
• Strong problem-solving skills; ability to interpret written, oral, and diagrammatic instructions

Education & Experience
