Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design seeks a Project Engineer to join its Civil/Site discipline in Arizona, focusing on data centers and commercial projects. The engineer will perform design tasks, including grading and drainage, using AutoCAD alongside staff engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 2–7+ years of related experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) required.
  • Professional Engineer license (as required) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Knowledge of local land use, planning and zoning regulations.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, hydraulics, hydrological analysis and site design.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Review zoning and land development ordinances to determine land development limitations.
  • Site investigation and due diligence including regulatory research and site visits.
  • Prepare concept drawings coordinating with AutoCAD drafter.
  • Lead design of stormwater management and conveyance systems using Civil 3D and hydrology software.
  • Prepare pipe sizing calculations for stormwater and drainage systems.
  • Evaluate surface runoff, invert, slope, velocity and HGL using Rational Method and Manning’s Equation.
  • Understand local stormwater design regulations.
  • Grading design to achieve value engineering while ensuring site safety.
  • Subdivision and site plan design and layout.
  • Design utility systems and resolve conflicts encountered.
  • Soil erosion and sediment control design including BMPs and sequencing.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates for bonding and client purposes.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team.

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Civil/Site Discipline in Arizona that focuses on data centers and commercial projects. The Project Engineer will utilize engineering skills to perform design tasks, including grading and drainage designs associated with development projects. Work within AutoCAD alongside staff engineers to collaborate and complete projects within established budgets, deadlines, and agency regulations.

This position is based in Arizona, with the option of office-based work in the West Valley, Phoenix, or Gilbert.

Responsibilities
  • Review of municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine the property's land development limitations.
  • Site Investigation & Due Diligence includes the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
  • Preparation of Concept Drawings based upon client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence. Involves preparation of concept plan, including coordination with AutoCAD drafter.
  • Leadership role in the review and design of Stormwater Management & Stormwater Conveyance Systems, including the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Hydrology design software.
  • Skills should include preparation of pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems, including drainage area maps.
  • Surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity & hydraulic grade line evaluation using the Rational Method & Manning’s Equation.
  • Knowledge of local stormwater management design regulations.
  • Grading Design to ensure value engineering is achieved through earthwork analysis and site safety is accomplished through the use of appropriate design slopes.
  • Subdivision and site plan design and layout.
  • Design of Utility Systems including stormwater conveyance, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, telephone service, etc. Also involves determination and resolution of vertical and horizontal utility conflicts that may exist.
  • Soil Erosion & Sediment Control Design, including stability calculations, Best Management Practices, swale design, spillway design, and determination of construction sequence.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates based on site plan drawings as required for bonding and client purposes.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team of other engineers.
Qualifications

  • Demonstrated Civil 3D skills with the ability to design site layouts concept through completion.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and with team members.
