Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Project Engineer to lead the technical execution of Advanced Systems projects. You will drive design, development, integration, delivery, and support of capabilities, products and services for key customers.

You will shape the product vision by incorporating market and customer feedback, and work with multidisciplinary teams to balance priorities while enabling system-level success. This role requires significant travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level engineering degree required.
  • 10+ years in communication and mission system integration.
  • Solid networking experience (IP, routing, firewalls).
  • Embedded software and containerization knowledge.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Leadership experience across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of system engineering lifecycle and verification.
  • Ability to drive roadmaps and requirements management.
  • DoD TS/SCI clearance and U.S. citizenship required.

What you’ll do

Viasat’s Advanced Systems team is looking for a Project Engineer to help drive the technical execution of our Advanced Systems’ projects and programs. This will include helping develop and deliver current scoped developments as well as future functionality and enhancements to the existing programs, products, and services.

The day-to-day

You will be part of an amazing team that will participate and oversee activities including design, development, system integration, delivery, and support of capabilities, products and services. You’ll help shape product vision and strategy by integrating market and customer feedback to balance stakeholder needs with the art of the possible. In this role you will also provide hands‑on technical support of critical capabilities to very important customers.

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 10+ years experience with communication systems and mission system integration
  • Solid experience with networking (IP networking, routing, firewalls)
  • Deep understanding of modern embedded software systems and containerization technologies
  • Proven troubleshooting, debugging and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications capabilities
  • Proven experience as a leader, especially with collaboration across multidisciplinary teams including internal groups, vendors, subcontractors, and partners
  • Deep understanding and experience with system engineering processes from requirements definition, to system verification test activities
  • Ability to drive roadmap, strategy, and requirements management to achieve priorities
  • Understanding or experience with MIL‑STD requirements and test methods
  • U.S. Government position. U.S. Citizenship required
  • Current active TS clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
What will help you on the job
  • Experience in operating and integrating communications systems into ISR and C2 mission systems
  • Ability to present technical details at an abstracted level
  • Expertise with commonly used communications and electrical test equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, traffic generator and others)
  • Hands‑on experience working with SATCOM terminals and communications solutions
  • Experience with Government standards and requirements, such as WGS Certification requirements, MIL‑STE‑810, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑1275, DO‑160, and RMF
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance
Salary range

$180,500.00 - $285,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $224,500.00- $336,500.00 / annually
