Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM is seeking up to two Senior Design Engineers, one Electrical and one Civil/Structural, to support facility design, operation, and maintenance at TA-55 and surrounding areas. The role requires taking initiative, leading projects, and coordinating with multiple disciplines.

Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor's in Engineering from ABET-accredited program, 9+ years of relevant experience, and possibly an advanced degree.

Engineer 4 - Senior Design Engineer, Plutonium Facilities Rapid Response Team (Electrical or Civil/Structural)

Location: Los Alamos, NM | 100% Onsite (TA-55 and surrounding areas)

Compensation: $96 - $102/hr

About the Role

LANL's Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team is seeking up to two Senior Design Engineers, one in Electrical Engineering and one in Civil/Structural Engineering, to support facility design, operation, and maintenance at and around TA-55. You will apply broad and diversified engineering knowledge to complex analyses, conventional and unique design work, and inter-disciplinary coordination. This is a senior position: you'll work independently and as part of a team, and you may lead projects and supervise the work of others.

• Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to your engineering discipline
• Proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities (ASCE, ASME, NQA-1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, and similar)
• Extensive prior experience facilitating design package development
• Senior-level understanding of common engineering design document deliverables

Security Clearance

This position requires the ability to receive and hold a DOE Q Clearance and to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.

Preferred Qualifications

• An advanced engineering or technical degree
• Experience in the use of common computer-aided drafting or mark-up software
• A DOE Q or L clearance currently held or held within the past 2 years
• Prior design engineering experience at a DOE or NNSA nuclear facility
