Job summary

Crane Co. seeks a Project Engineer to bridge engineering and product management for valve portfolios. You will support lifecycle management, develop technical solutions, and lead cross-functional projects from concept to implementation.

Qualifications

Job description

The Project Engineer role serves as a key technical and business partner within the Product Management organization, supporting the development, enhancement, and lifecycle management of Barksdale's valve product portfolio. This role bridges engineering, product management, sales, operations, and customers by providing technical expertise, managing product-related projects, evaluating customer applications, and supporting strategic growth initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with business acumen to identify customer needs, develop technical solutions, support product strategy, and lead cross-functional projects from concept through implementation. This position plays an important role in new product development, product rationalization, obsolescence management, application engineering, and customer-facing technical support as he/she works in collaboration with cross-functional teams (Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Shipping, and Sales & Marketing) to ensure successful outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities
Product and Project Management Support
  • Participate and oversee, as needed, activities related to bill of materials (BOM) creation, product costing, and product change requests (PCR)
  • Lead smaller engineering projects from concept through completion, focusing on mechanical and electrical systems; providing regular status updates (daily, weekly, monthly) to stakeholders
  • Support product replacement and obsolescence projects to support 80/20 initiatives
  • Support the Product Management team with data analysis and market research to guide product strategy and identify growth opportunities
  • Track and report progress for designated projects / activities in regular team meetings
Engineering and Operations Support
  • Gather technical requirements for new opportunities by engaging directly with customers and sales teams, including occasional on-site visits to observe applications
  • Evaluate customer technical requirements through Barksdale's product offering lens
  • Be able to analyze product performance data to ensure reliability and specification compliance
  • Work closely with the quality team to address customer concerns and ensure that resolution
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and validate prototypes using CAD tools and electrical schematics
Technical Sales & Customer Support
  • Respond promptly and thoroughly to customer inquiries via phone and email for designated product lines
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical components, industrial applications, and manufacturing processes
  • Translate customer specifications into mechanical/electrical design requirements and coordinate prototype testing under real-world service conditions
  • Develop technical and business documentation
  • Deliver technical presentations and host educational sessions focused on engineering performance and product differentiation
  • Evaluate technologies and solutions for new or modified products, developing engineering concepts and recommendations for customer review
  • Support product documentation requirements as needed
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (BSME/BSEE) with 1-2 years of relevant experience (in engineering, project management, and/or product development)
  • Familiarity with project management practices, new product development processes, and technical product/application development
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, material properties, and industrial standards
  • Understanding of industrial marketing, sales principles, and customer engagement
  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication across diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver clear and engaging presentations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word); strong excel skills is a must
  • Technical aptitude combined with sound business judgment
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) or electrical design tools (Altium, MATLAB) - a plus
  • Ability to travel to meet customers for training, technical discussions and business development

Salary range: $85,000 to $95,000. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Compensation packages also include comprehensive benefits, 401K contribution and match, Paid Time Off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement and more. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs
