The Project Engineer provides engineering support for underground development, mass excavation and construction projects. Responsibilities include the preparation, scheduling, coordination, forecasting, resourcing and monitoring of assigned engineering projects to ensure the project’s overall accuracy and quality.
Responsibilities
- Participates in planning, coordination, procurement, and management of the overall design and engineering process.
- Ensures that engineering designs follow all applicable regulations and safety standards.
- Identify and correct daily operational problems and take necessary action.
- Identify changes and variations to the works under the Contract and ensure these issues are recorded, tracked, and otherwise managed in accordance with the Contract.
- Collect information and prepare daily reports on underground mine development.
- Provide technical support, quality, and environmental control of the works in accordance with the contract specifications and the relevant statutory regulations.
- Schedule project activities in conjunction with the Engineering Manager.
- Prepare weekly and monthly mine development forecasts.
- Prepare construction and fabrication drawings and support construction crews to ensure that work done meets technical requirements.
- Address and troubleshoot daily activity issues needing action.
- Conduct cycle studies and estimate performance rates.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, policies and procedures as related.
- Prepare and review change order requests and determine the technical requirements for implementation of changes.
- Ensure that all construction is drafted, and specifications determined prior to the associated construction activity.
- Ensure that all work is completed to acceptable technical and quality standards.
- Attend meetings and interact with client representatives.
- Tours work areas to ensure that quality and scope of work is being accomplished.
- Compile redline drawings to ensure drawing register is up to date with current as-built conditions.
- If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Perform Field Level Risk Assessments.
- Comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties safely and efficiently.
- Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
- Comply with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the manuals, handbooks, directives, and SOPs.
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, including overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
- Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Education & Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
Experience
Required: 3-5 years’ experience in a mining environment.

Health & Safety
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
- Abide by Company Health and Safety standards and report unsafe acts or conditions to a supervisor or management.
- Responsible for the use of safety equipment, including lanyards, signs and labeling, work permits according to company rules and applicable legislation.
- Personal protective equipment is required when working in a mine environment.
- Must have knowledge of OSHA and MSHA legislation and how to use Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- MSHA Certification is required by site. Follow Client on-site Health and Safety requirements.
- Completes Risk Assessments for each task.
