Job summary

Hoffer Plastics is hiring a Project Engineer on 1st shift. The role focuses on leading tool design, quotations, and procurement for plastic molding projects.

You will collaborate with customers and tooling suppliers to ensure robust, manufacturable tooling and successful project delivery. The position requires a Bachelor's in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience), 3–5 years in plastic mold injection, and strong CAD/ Moldex 3D skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or plastics technology, or completion of a related apprenticeship or a 2-year technical degree plus 5 years of related working experience.
• 3-5 years of plastic mold injection experience.
• Strong computer skills in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally when necessary.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication with customers, suppliers, and co-workers.

Responsibilities

• Main engineering contact for customers and tooling suppliers.
• Analyze customer prints and tool quotation requests, prepare tool quotations, and procure tooling.
• Ensure new tools are designed and built per requirements for robust manufacturing.
• Conduct design and preliminary tool reviews with the multi-disciplinary team.
• Place tool purchase orders, expedite, and track tooling progress.
• Conduct pre-sampling and post-sampling meetings with project team members.
• Advise Project Manager on customer approval or deviations to minimize delays.
• Assist Sales in design-related projects (prototyping, metal-to-plastic conversion).
• Identify sources for design, build and prototyping activities.
• Perform mold simulation analysis utilizing Moldex 3D.
• Maintain safety and orderly work areas.

Essential Responsibilities

• Main engineering contact for our customers and tooling suppliers.
• Responsible for assigned duties involving the analysis of customer prints and tool quotation requests, the preparation of tool quotations and the procurement of the tooling.
• Will ensure that new tools are designed and built- in accordance with our requirements and allow for a robust and reliable manufacturing process.
• Conduct design and preliminary tool reviews to insure consensus of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Place tool purchase order, expedite, follow up by appropriate visits to tooling sources, and become completely familiar with tooling progress and compliance to agreed design.
• Conduct pre-sampling and post-sampling meetings with project team members.
• Advise the Project Manager as to customer approval, or necessity for deviation. Follow up promptly to minimize delays to assure compliance with quoted tool delivery times.

• Prototyping new parts and providing design recommendations
• Metal to plastic conversion
• Identifying new opportunities through design change and developing the piece part design
• Identify sources for design, build and prototyping activities
• Perform mold simulation analysis utilizing Moldex 3D.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Sometimes sit, use keyboard.
• Occasionally stand, bend at the waist, twist/turn, kneel/crouch, climb.
• Occasionally lift below and above the waist, lift above the shoulder, push, pull up to 30lbs.
• Occasionally use manipulative finger and foot movement, repetitive hand/wrist movement, squeeze up to 30 lbs.
• Occasionally be exposed to fumes, odors, dusts, oil/grease, humidity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Plastics Technology, or completion of a related apprenticeship or a 2- year technical degree plus 5 years of related working experience.
• 3-5 years of plastic mold injection experience.
• Strong computer skills in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Overall understanding of numerous raw materials (PP, ABS, Acetel, Nylon).
• Strong communication skills and professional demeanor with customers, suppliers, and co-workers.
• Highly energetic with a positive attitude.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally when necessary
