Job Title: Project Engineer – Food Manufacturing

The Project Engineer is responsible for leading and executing capital and process improvement projects within our food manufacturing facility. This role requires strong industrial engineering expertise and proven skills in Gantt-based project management, including developing project schedules, tracking dependencies, and conducting critical path analysis. The Project Engineer will partner with cross-functional teams to optimize processes, enhance plant layouts, and deliver projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with food safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain detailed Gantt project schedules, including dependencies, milestones, and resource assignments.
  • Perform critical path analysis and proactively identify schedule risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead capital projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery while meeting safety and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate cross-functional project teams (operations, maintenance, quality, safety) and lead effective project meetings.
  • Analyze production processes and recommend design improvements to increase efficiency, yield, and safety.
  • Create plant layouts, equipment specifications, and process flow diagrams.
  • Manage contractors, vendors, and installation teams, including bid review, compliance, and project closeout.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation: budgets, risk registers, schedule updates, and post-project evaluations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement lean manufacturing practices across the facility.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Chemical Engineering considered).
  • 5+ years of project engineering experience in food manufacturing or consumer packaged goods (CPG).
  • Hands-on experience creating and managing Gantt project schedules using Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of dependencies, critical path methodology, and resource leveling.
  • Knowledge of food safety and regulatory compliance (USDA, HACCP, GMP).
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software.
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present updates to leadership.
  • PMP certification or formal project management training preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or demonstrated experience with lean methodologies.
  • Experience with automation, process control systems, and plant commissioning/startup.
  • Strong vendor management, contract negotiation, and cost-control skills.
  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance required.
