Job summary

Leeward Renewable Energy is seeking a Project Engineer to manage technical scope, design adequacy, permitting, schedule, budget, and construction for wind, solar and storage projects.

The role interfaces with Development, Interconnection, Permitting, Real Estate, Operations and more, requiring strong PM skills and a proactive, self-driven approach. This is an in-office role with hybrid flexibility.

Qualifications

• BS in engineering; 4-year degree.
• 3-6 years in power generation, renewables preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary engineering interface from 30% design through as-builts after handoff to Operations.
• Lead multi-discipline team and consultants to meet project requirements.
• Finalize engineering exhibits for EPC contracts; support owner-supplied equipment agreements.
• Review scope of work and bid clarifications for EPC contracting.
• Manage delivery milestones for engineering deliverables from EPCs and OSPs.
• Review design submittals against criteria and energy requirements.
• Coordinate responses to RFIs and equipment submittals.
• Provide technical information from owner-supplied equipment to EPCs.
• Support site visits, inspections, meetings, and change order reviews.
• Maintain communication with cross-functional groups for input into decisions.
• Analyze budgets and resources to meet project constraints.
• Escalate issues with recommended solutions to PM.

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer (P2) is the primary engineering interface representing LRE during project execution. This position is responsible for planning and managing all technical aspects and decisions associated with design, technical adequacy, permitting, schedule, budgets, and construction of assigned wind, solar, and/or energy storage projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the primary engineering interface between Development, Interconnection, Permitting, Real Estate, Operations, Construction, Quality, Procurement, Finance, and Project Management from the 30% engineering designs until final receipt of as-builts after handoff to Operations
• Direct the activities of a multi-discipline engineering team and consultants to ensure project requirements are achieved for assigned projects
• Finalize engineering exhibits for EPC contracts and support owner supply equipment agreements as needed
• Support EPC contracting efforts through review of the scope of work and responding to bid clarifications and exclusions
• Manage the receipt and review of engineering deliverables from EPC contractors and owner supplied equipment providers within scheduled delivery milestones
• Review project design submittals against design criteria, constraints, energy requirements, and other contract requirements
• Manage timely responses to RFIs and equipment submittals
• Ensure EPC contractors are provided with technical information from owner supplied equipment
• Support site and PM team as needed for site visits, inspections, meetings, and change order review
• Coordinate/manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within the constraints of available resources and priorities while maintaining project goals and objectives
• Analysis of engineering alternatives to ensure most cost-effective approach is followed while maintaining compliance with technical adequacy and safety standards
• Establish and maintain appropriate communication with cross functional groups to ensure their input is properly factored into project engineering decisions
• Analyze schedule, budgets and resource indicators and make necessary adjustments to meet project constraints
• Work harmoniously and effectively with LRE’s cross functional groups
• Provide technical support and respond to questions on PPAs, Interconnection Agreements, insurance forms, and from independent engineers
• Escalate engineering issues to PM that impact schedule and/or budget as well as provide recommended solutions
• Ensures all engineering deliverables are received and available for operations after execution

Required Qualifications:

• 4-Year Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering

• 3 - 6 years of relevant experience in power generation preferably renewables

• Ability to learn quickly

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Familiarity with building codes and standards including the IBC, ASCE 7, and the NEC

• Understanding of building permit processes

• Familiarity with construction techniques

• Strong project management skills

• Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as outside customers and vendors

• Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs

• Skills in organizing project engineering schedules and resources to meet project goals in an efficient way

• Ability to act independently analyzing project related issues and initiating solutions and corrective actions with minimum supervision.

• Good understanding of multi-discipline engineering functions and their interdependencies

• Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.

• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and drawings and other common specifications

• Knowing when to elevate issues

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Deep technical knowledge of PV, wind, and storage power plant systems and equipment.

• Understanding of project development processes

• Strong knowledge of power project engineering

• Basic knowledge of project commercial issues and project financial analysis

• Strong knowledge in procurement and construction processes and procedures

• Proficient use of Bluebeam Revu

• Familiarity with some of the following: AutoCAD, PVsyst, PlantPredict, Openwind, and other automated layout/optimization tools

• Proficient knowledge of engineering economics and optimization process

• Obtained E.I.T. certificate and working towards PE license

Reporting Structure:

The Project Engineer reports to the Manager of Project Engineering within the Project Construction Management Organization.

Physical Demands:

• Position will require sitting for long periods of time
• Occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
• Willingness and ability to travel at least 25% of time

Please Note: This is an in-office role, requiring on site presence in our office a minimum of three days per week with hybrid flexibility of working remotely two days per week, subject to manager and policy approval. #LIHybrid
