Job summary

Musco Lighting in Oskaloosa, IA is seeking a Project Engineer to translate customer needs into engineered lighting solutions. You will assess technical requirements, define Musco products to meet specs, and prepare production documents.

The role emphasizes CAD proficiency, cross‑functional collaboration with sales, architects, and contractors, and attention to detail in drawings and BOMs. Some night work and travel up to 10% may be required; prior lighting design knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Proficient in AutoCAD with strong CAD document skills.
• Solid computer skills and detail‑oriented approach.

Responsibilities

• Assess and define customer values and technical requirements for each project.
• Define solutions using Musco products and required documentation.
• Create custom lighting solutions via proprietary software.
• Prepare production documents including BOMs, loading lists, and drawings.
• Review specs to ensure codes and requirements are met.
• Communicate technical information clearly to stakeholders.
• Design/apply custom controls.
• Check production documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare technical presentation materials and drawings using CAD.
• Fine-tune field aim of Musco products.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Criteria

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related technical degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD
• Proficient computer skills
• Mechanical and electrical experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple projects at a given time.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills; ability to work well with internal and external team members
• Strong technical aptitude with attention to detail
• Previous Lighting design knowledge a plus but not required.

Other Special Requirements

• Up to 10% travel may be required
• Ability to work at heights
• Some night time work required

Roles And Responsibilities

• Assess and define customer’s values and technical requirements associated with each assigned project.
• Define appropriate solution using Musco products and documentation needed to support Musco’s sales strategy.
• Create custom lighting solution utilizing proprietary software.
• Create built to order production documents including bill of materials, loading list, & special build drawings.
• Review project specifications and bid plans to ensure structural, electrical, lighting design and controls are meeting the codes and requirements of the published documentation.
• Communicate technical information, both written and verbal, to architects, engineers, specifiers, sale representatives, contractors and internal team members. Able to simplify and explain complex concepts.
• Design/apply custom controls.
• Provide initial and secondary check of production documents, verifying accuracy of all components.
• Prepare technical presentation material and drawings utilizing CAD and other software programs
• Fine tune field aim Musco products
• Other duties as assigned
