McArdle Grading Co. is seeking a Project Engineer to support the project management team from pre-construction through closeout, helping keep projects organized, documented, on schedule, and within budget.

The role offers hands-on field exposure and a clear path toward project management. The ideal candidate has a technical background with a willingness to spend time on active job sites, read civil plans, and coordinate with field crews, suppliers, and inspectors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 0–3 years of experience in civil construction, site development, or utilities.
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans and specifications.
• Understanding of earthwork, utility, and paving operations.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Willingness to spend time in the field on active jobsites.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers on civil projects from startup to closeout.
• Review civil plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating and bid preparation.
• Track job costs, quantities installed, and production rates.
• Prepare and document change orders, pay applications, and daily reports.
• Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and surveyors.
• Attend site visits, progress meetings, and preconstruction meetings.
• Maintain accurate project records, including as-builts and closeout documents.
• Support safe work practices and compliance with company and OSHA standards.

We are Seeking a Project Engineer to support our project management team from pre-construction through closeout, helping keep projects organized, documented, on schedule, and within budget.

Preferred (Not Required)

• Internship or co-op experience with a civil contractor or engineering firm
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, or takeoff software (e.g., AGTEK, Trimble Business Center)
• Familiarity with GPS machine control and surveying concepts
• Exposure to project management or job costing software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Viewpoint)
