Job summary

AVANTech, LLC is seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to own and drive the execution, design review, fabrication, and project management of custom glovebox assemblies and integrated systems.

You will bridge design engineering, shop production, and project execution, overseeing schedules, budgets, procurement, and fabrication workflows to deliver high-integrity equipment on time and within spec.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in project engineering, mechanical design, project management, or hands-on custom equipment fabrication.
• Experience working in fabrication shop or manufacturing environment (stainless steel, weldments, piping/tubing).
• Ability to manage timelines, cost evaluations, budgets, and adapt to scope changes.

Responsibilities

• Lead execution, technical design reviews, fabrication, and project management of custom glovebox assemblies and integrated systems.
• Act as primary bridge between design engineering, shop production, and project execution.
• Oversee project schedules, budgets, material procurement, and fabrication workflows.
• Coordinate with vendors to specify, quote, and procure materials and glovebox hardware.
• Support FAT testing, quality assurance, and ensure builds meet specs and safety standards.

You are a hands-on Engineer with a mechanical background who thrives both behind a computer and on the shop floor. You enjoy taking full ownership of complex physical-blending mechanical design, hands-on fabrication support, and project management. You are excited to lead high-integrity custom projects, such as specialized glovebox containment systems-through shop integration, testing and delivery.

A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer

The Project Engineer is part of the team leading the execution, technical design review, fabrication, and project management of custom glovebox assemblies and integrated systems. Acting as the primary bridge between design engineering, shop production, and project execution, you will oversee project schedules, budgets, material procurement, and fabrication workflows.

• Shop Floor Integration & Support: Build work packages for production, collaborate daily with shop craft personnel (welders, fabricators, assemblers), and resolve hands-on manufacturing or fit-up issues.
• Design & Mechanical Engineering: Review and support 2D/3D CAD models (SolidWorks/AutoCAD), structural/piping layouts, and work packages
• Project Management & Schedule Control: Develop project timelines,monitor milestones, manage project risks, track fabrication hours, andallocate resources to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Supply Chain & Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with vendors tospecify, quote, and procure materials, component parts, and specializedglovebox hardware to support active fabrication projects.
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), leak testing, and system commissioning. Ensure all buildscomply with customer specifications, QA programs, and industry safetystandards.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in project engineering, mechanical design, project management, or hands-on custom equipment fabrication
• Fabrication Acumen: Direct experience or high comfort level working in a fabrication, shop, or manufacturing environment (stainless steel, structural weldments, piping/tubing systems)
• Project Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage timelines, perform basic engineering/cost evaluations, track project budgets, and adapt through scope changes
