Job summary

Village of Mount Prospect is seeking a Project Engineer in the Engineering Division within the Public Works Department. The role focuses on planning, designing, and implementing stormwater systems while ensuring regulatory compliance and sustainable flood control.

Requirements include a BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, and either a PE license in Illinois or the ability to obtain within one year, plus CFM certification or the ability to obtain within one

Qualifications

• Registration as a Professional Engineer in Illinois or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
• Certified Floodplain Manager certification, or ability to acquire within one year of employment.

Job description

Overview

The Mount Prospect Public Works Department is seeking candidates for the position of Project Engineer within the Engineering Division.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement innovative solutions to address complex environmental challenges with a strong technical background in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater modeling.
• Provide excellent project management and communication to collaborate effectively with Village staff, elected officials, residents, developers, stormwater regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Plan, design, and implement stormwater management systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and develop sustainable flood control and water quality solutions as a member of the Engineering Division.
• Oversee the Village’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and ensure completion of recertification requirements under the Community Rating System; ensure compliance with NPDES regulations.
• Interact regularly with citizens, business owners, contractors, consultants, elected officials, State/County employees, and other stakeholders on engineering-related issues.

Education and Certification

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois required or ability to acquire within one year of employment.
• Certified Floodplain Manager certification, or ability to acquire within one year of employment.

Experience

• Minimum of three years of professional engineering experience.
• Valid Class B driver's license (CDL) from the State of Illinois or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting Rate: $107,227 – $150,118 annually, depending on qualifications.
• Minimum 40 hours per week.
