Overview
The Mount Prospect Public Works Department is seeking candidates for the position of Project Engineer within the Engineering Division.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement innovative solutions to address complex environmental challenges with a strong technical background in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater modeling.
- Provide excellent project management and communication to collaborate effectively with Village staff, elected officials, residents, developers, stormwater regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Plan, design, and implement stormwater management systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and develop sustainable flood control and water quality solutions as a member of the Engineering Division.
- Oversee the Village’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and ensure completion of recertification requirements under the Community Rating System; ensure compliance with NPDES regulations.
- Interact regularly with citizens, business owners, contractors, consultants, elected officials, State/County employees, and other stakeholders on engineering-related issues.
Education and Certification
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois required or ability to acquire within one year of employment.
- Certified Floodplain Manager certification, or ability to acquire within one year of employment.
Experience
- Minimum of three years of professional engineering experience.
- Valid Class B driver's license (CDL) from the State of Illinois or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting Rate: $107,227 – $150,118 annually, depending on qualifications.
- Minimum 40 hours per week.

- Pre-employment requirements: successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including a drug and alcohol screen.
