Job summary

Vulcan Materials is seeking a Project Engineer to lead safety, design, and construction activities for major plant projects. You will develop and enforce design standards, produce Civil/Mechanical/Structural drawings, and ensure compliance with codes and regulations.

You will coordinate with external consultants and internal teams, assist with permits, scope equipment needs, and manage cost, schedule, and quality. Ideal candidates hold an engineering degree and a PE/EIT is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree required; BS Civil Engineer, BS Mechanical Engineer, or BS Structural Engineer preferred.
  • PE or EIT license preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of design specs, building codes, and equipment used within Vulcan plants.

Responsibilities

  • Champion safety by ensuring compliance with MSHA and Vulcan safety standards.
  • Develop division-wide design and construction standards.
  • Create structural and mechanical general arrangement drawings and process flow diagrams; ensure compliance with codes.
  • Coordinate engineering services from outside parties and internal designers; advise on construction methods.
  • Assist with construction permits; select equipment and materials; verify finished work meets specifications.
  • Develop estimates, equipment specs, and proposals; manage schedules and monitor costs.
  • Collaborate with procurement and vendors to expedite deliveries; review contractor work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Project Engineer – 240001QG

Primary Location: Pleasanton, California (Full-time)

Responsibilities
  • Champion Safety: Prioritize safety in all operations, inspecting plant systems to ensure compliance with MSHA and Vulcan standards, and acting in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Manage Standards: Recommend and develop division-wide design standards and construction standards for the division.
  • Provide Design Services: Develop structural general arrangement drawings (steel and concrete), mechanical general arrangement drawings, and process flow diagrams; provide all required design services to meet project demands; ensure designs comply fully with applicable design codes and local codes.
  • Coordinate Engineering Services: Coordinate and review engineering services from outside parties and internal designers; consult with construction services personnel on appropriate construction methods.
  • Assist with Construction Projects: Secure necessary construction permits; recommend equipment and materials; review finished work for compliance with specifications.
  • Manage Projects: Develop cost estimates, equipment specifications, and proposals; schedule work to meet deadlines; monitor work progress, quality, and engineering standards; revise designs or schedules as needed; forecast and monitor project cost.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with procurement and vendors to expedite deliveries; assist in contractor selection; review and approve work completed by outside contractors.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Degree in Engineering required; BS Civil Engineer, BS Mechanical Engineer, or BS Structural Engineer preferred.
  • License: PE or EIT license preferred.
  • Functional Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of design specifications, building codes, and equipment used within the company’s plants.

Salary Range

Base salary range: $128,000 to $150,000 annual salary. This range does not include discretionary bonus or equity package. Compensation is determined by skillset, experience, job scope, and market data.
