Job summary

The City of Miami Beach is seeking a Civil Engineering graduate to support planning, design, construction inspection, and maintenance of municipal public works projects. The role is assigned to Public Works Engineering and involves reviewing surveys, plans, and permits, and coordinating with consultants and utilities.

Qualifications include a Civil Engineering bachelor's degree or Florida EIT with one year of experience. Strong communication and on-site inspection duties are required.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Or E.I.T. with one year of full-time paid Civil engineer experience in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews field surveys to interpret information required for design and construction of public works projects.
  • Reviews plans for public works projects for compliance with standards.
  • Prepares engineering reports and regulatory filings with clear logic.
  • Reviews permit applications for proposed utility installations or construction; makes recommendations.
  • Acts as liaison between City and consulting engineers, utility companies, and city departments.
  • Assists in supervising inspection of public works projects including roads, bridges, water systems, and sewers.
  • Performs related work as required.

Job description

Civil Engineering graduate working in the planning, design, construction inspection, and maintenance of a variety of municipal or public works projects and facilities. NOTE: This position is assigned to the Public Works Engineering

  • Reviews field surveys to interpret information required for the design and construction of public works projects
  • Reviews plans for public works projects for compliance with standards
  • Prepares engineering reports, basis of design reports, and regulatory compliance filings, ensures that reports are detailed, methodical, and provide clear logic for engine
  • Reviews permit applications for proposed utility installations and/or construction; issues recommendations to supervisors on effects to existing or proposed utilities or rig
  • Acts as liaison between City and consulting engineers, utility companies, engineering firms, and/or city departments engaged in construction
  • Assists in the supervision of inspection of public works projects, including, but not limited to roads, bridges, water supply systems, streetlights, sanitary sewer systems, a

  • Physical capability to effectively use field inspection instruments including, but not limited to: cameras, levels, measuring tapes, survey tools, measuring rods, measuring wheels, and paper, bound, or electronic inspection forms/books.
