Job summary

J.H. Findorff & Son, Inc invites a motivated Project Engineer intern to gain hands-on experience across preconstruction through project closeout.

You will work with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to develop technical, financial, and leadership skills. You will support RFIs, submittals, change orders, scheduling, procurement tracking, and cost reporting while learning construction management practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience or exposure to real-world construction, field engineering, estimating, or project management.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills; ability to work independently.
  • Analytical/problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of construction processes, building systems, and project coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook; ability to learn construction management software.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Management: Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, document control, and project communication to keep work organized and moving forward.
  • Contribute to Scheduling & Coordination: Help develop, update, and distribute project schedules while supporting short-term planning and coordination with field teams and subcontractors.
  • Assist in Procurement & Contracts: Support subcontract preparation, bidding activities, procurement tracking, and contract documentation while learning compliance requirements.
  • Participate in Preconstruction: Gain exposure to estimating, quantity takeoffs, bid package preparation, constructability reviews, and subcontractor outreach.
  • Support Field Operations: Assist Superintendents with safety initiatives, material coordination, cost tracking, productivity reporting, and quality control processes.
  • Develop Financial Awareness: Assist with cost tracking, invoice coding, change order support, and monthly reporting while building a foundational understanding of project financials.
  • Build Leadership & Communication Skills: Work collaboratively with project teams, clients, architects, and trade partners while developing strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

What You’ll Do

As a Project Engineer at Findorff, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across every phase of construction from preconstruction through project closeout.
