Position Summary

The Project Engineer works with customers to create accurate and revenue-generating quotes for new product proposals, participates in and/or leads new product development, and makes improvements to existing product designs. They are responsible for the successful integration of new products and are expected to contribute to the continuous improvement process. They manage engineering change orders as well as purchase order evaluations that contribute to overall operations at TACK.

Responsibilities
  • Consult or negotiate with customers and TACK account manager to review scope of project specifications and obtain clarity on project changes and requests.
  • Review product designs and quotes for manufacturability, utility, and completeness.
  • Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
  • Develop bill of materials in collaboration with Purchasing Department.
  • Establish labor plan to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization.
  • Develop and monitor equipment, tooling, and process plan for new and current projects.
  • Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control.
  • Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to clients. Directs, reviews, and approves product design and changes.
  • Identify opportunities and implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Provide technical expertise, including the ability to do calculations for wire/component sizing; and have the knowledge to verify customer drawings for correct design parameters.
  • Manage engineering change orders in collaboration with production staff and customer to adjust drawings, update ERP system, communicate with relevant parties and ensure accurate production of change.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes as needed by manufacturing.
  • Prepare work instructions and cut sheets specific to each project.
  • Prepare documentation for new manufacturing products.
  • Estimate production times for all products.
  • Research and follow industry trends and the use of new technologies that support process improvements throughout operations and engineering.
  • Determine and implement method for testing finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and direct the integration of technical activities.
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, completing quotes and release packages, and reviewing other engineering team members work for accuracy.
  • Analyze technology and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
Education & Experience
  • Four (4) year Engineering Degree preferred or equivalent work experience in Engineering field required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in electronic or mechanical Engineering department, wire harness and/or electronic assembly experience a plus.
  • One (1) year of experience working with CAD software required.
  • Experience working with ERP software.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of distribution of goods.
  • Familiar with ISO 9001.
  • Must be proficient using MS Office applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Full working knowledge of and committed to continuous improvement principles.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously and successfully function in a cross‑functional manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of wire harnessing and electronic assembly.
  • Ability to understand and operate production equipment in a limited capacity.
