Job summary

Actalent is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support major construction projects onsite, focusing on mechanical and plumbing scopes. You will collaborate with field teams to manage cost forecasting, scheduling, document control, and coordination for complex data center and industrial projects.

The role requires knowledge of construction management principles, strong communication, and proficiency with industry tools.

Qualifications

  • Experience in project engineering within mechanical construction or related construction management environments.
  • Knowledge of mechanical construction, including HVAC, plumbing, and process piping systems.
  • Understanding of construction management principles, including scheduling, cost control, and document management.
  • Ability to manage and support change order processes and RFIs.
  • Ability to read and understand project plans, drawings, and specifications related to mechanical scopes of work.

Responsibilities

  • Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs to support accurate project budgeting and profitability analysis.
  • Assist in the buyout and procurement process for major equipment and subcontracts, ensuring competitive pricing and timely award.
  • Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment and materials to maintain project schedules and avoid delays.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of general conditions, scope of work, and specifications contained in project contracts and subcontracts.
  • Maintain and control project documents in full compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements.
  • Collaborate with field labor supervision to plan, organize, and schedule project work, including preparation of integrated subcontract and contract project schedules.
  • Review contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications to verify scope, identify discrepancies, and support construction planning.
  • Prepare fabrication shop work packages, including detail drawing review, material take-offs and buyouts, and development of man-hour fabrication budgets.
  • Ensure full compliance with the jobsite Safety Program and promote a safe work environment for all project personnel.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and promptness to support reliable project communication and coordination.
  • Use MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus to manage project information and workflows, with on-the-job training provided for many of these tools.
  • Develop a strong understanding of construction sequencing, particularly for mechanical and plumbing scopes of work.
  • Support change order and RFI processes by helping to identify, document, and track changes in scope and clarifications.
  • Assist with project estimation and cost analysis for mechanical, plumbing, and process piping scopes.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on data center and industrial construction projects to align mechanical and plumbing work with overall project milestones.

Job Title: Project EngineerJob Description

The Project Engineer will support major construction projects onsite in Boise, Idaho, providing comprehensive project management support to ensure quality delivery and profitability. This role collaborates closely with superintendents, foremen, engineers, detailers, and leadership to manage cost forecasting, scheduling, document control, and field coordination for mechanical and plumbing scopes of work.

Responsibilities

Essential Skills
  • Experience in project engineering within mechanical construction or related construction management environments.
  • Knowledge of mechanical construction, including HVAC, plumbing, and process piping systems.

  • Ability to manage and support change order processes and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Ability to read and understand project plans, drawings, and specifications related to mechanical scopes of work.
  • Proficiency or strong familiarity with MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus, with willingness to learn tools through on-the-job training.
  • 1+ years of experience working as a Project Engineer overseeing HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical scopes of construction preferred; internship experience is acceptable.
  • Previous construction field experience, which may be accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam and Procore, highly preferred for document control and project coordination.
  • Ability to support industrial and data center construction projects with mechanical and plumbing focus.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and coordination skills to work effectively with field and office teams.
  • Commitment to jobsite safety and adherence to established Safety Program requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is desired.
  • Experience with mechanical engineering and industrial construction environments.
  • Familiarity with data center construction projects and their unique mechanical and plumbing requirements.
  • Ability to develop an understanding of construction sequencing and its impact on mechanical and plumbing scopes.
  • Strong organizational skills for document control and schedule coordination.
  • Attention to detail in reviewing drawings, specifications, and fabrication work packages.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work in a close-knit project team.
  • Adaptability to learn new construction technologies and software platforms.
Work Environment

The role is primarily onsite at a hyperscale data center project in Utah, supporting major mechanical and plumbing construction activities in a large-scale industrial setting. The Project Engineer works closely with field supervision and office teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values honesty, respect, and teamwork. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eagle Mountain, UT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
