Job summary

Dawn Foods is seeking a Project Engineer for our Denver, CO facility to manage capital projects from inception to completion. You will work with engineers, plant leadership, and outside vendors to deliver packaging, infrastructure, and productivity improvements.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering and at least 5 years' experience in process manufacturing. The position is onsite with typical hours and up to 15% travel, offering competitive compensation and strong benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing capital projects in process manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Experience with project management techniques and tools.
  • Experience in food industry or consumer packaged goods is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute all aspects of capital projects including budget, schedule, conceptual/FEL engineering, scope development, cost estimation, system design, equipment sizing and selection, procurement, installation, construction management, startup and close-out.
  • Coordinate and manage external engineering firms and vendors as necessary.
  • Monitor design progress and ensure deliverables meet KPIs.
  • Lead project scope, cost estimation, and scheduling with internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluate, select, and issue contracts for construction firms through bidding and prequalification.
  • Direct and execute installation, construction, and commissioning of projects.
  • Maintain milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling.
  • Use PMO system for project management functions.
  • Ensure designs comply with Corporate, FSQA, and EHS requirements and FDA/OSHA regulations.
  • Communicate effectively across levels and functions.
  • Collaborate with central engineering resources, plant quality, safety, and operations leadership.
  • Coordinate all aspects of projects from design to installation and closing.
  • Utilize continuous improvement tools as needed.
  • Provide production support and troubleshooting as required.

Job Purpose and Overview

The Project Engineer is responsible for the development, management, organization, and control of capital projects, from inception to completion, at one of Dawn’s North American locations. This position requires considerable interaction with other engineers, plant leadership teams, plant floor personnel, and external engineers and vendors.Projects may range from new packaging and processing equipment, plant infrastructure replacement or upgrades, cost savings/productivity projects, and supporting program development initiatives like executing asset criticality assessments and developing or updating engineering standards.

Work Environment & Travel:

This is an on-site role based at the Denver manufacturing facility. The typical schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with the ability to flex based on project demands and business needs. Up to 15% travel may be required. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance to Denver, CO to be considered, as relocation assistance is not available.

What will you do as a Project Engineer at Dawn Foods?
  • Manage and execute all aspects of capital projects such as all project management requirements, budget, schedule, conceptual / FEL engineering, scope development, cost estimation, system design, equipment sizing and selection, procurement, installation, construction management, checkout, startup, and project close-out.
  • Manage and control project budget, providing cost forecasts and cash flow projections through development of project cost and status reports.
    • Coordinate and manage external engineering firms and vendors as necessary.
  • Monitor design progress and ensure deliverables are met in adherence to established project key performance indicators.
  • Lead project scope, cost estimation, and scheduling with internal stakeholders to align with project deliverables.
  • Evaluate, select, and issue contracts for construction firms through bidding and prequalification vetting processes.
  • Direct and execute installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned projects.
  • Manage and maintain project milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling as agreed upon in the project charter.
  • Utilize PMO system for all project management functions throughout the lifecycle of projects.
  • Ensure designs and all stages of the project are compliant with internal Corporate, FSQA, and EHS requirements and all Federal, State, or Local regulations such as FDA, EPA, and OSHA.
  • Applies effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in all directions to multiple levels of experience.
  • Maintain close working relationships with central engineering resources, plant quality, plant safety, plant operations leadership, and finance.
  • Coordinate all aspects of projects from design through final installation and project closing processes, in collaboration with functional teams.
  • Utilize continuous improvement and vertical start-up tools as needed for project success
  • Offer production support and troubleshooting assistance to Engineers, Operations, and Maintenance as required.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures.

What Does It Take to be a Project Engineer at Dawn Foods?

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing capital projects in a process manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment, with increasing responsibility and complexity
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and tools
  • Experience in the food industry and consumer packaged goods is preferred
  • Experience in collaborating with corporate and plant engineers as well as cross-functional stakeholders
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project is preferred

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $93,240-$121,210, with bonus eligibility.
