Job summary

Anglian Water is seeking a project engineer to provide technical assurance and engineering leadership across the lifecycle of a major Integrated Operational Solution project in Colchester. You will collaborate with the Project Manager and delivery teams to ensure obligations, governance and health and safety standards are met, from design through commissioning.

The role requires water industry experience, NEC contracts understanding and appropriate engineering qualifications; a UK driving

Qualifications

• A level or equivalent is required.
• Engineering qualifications are desirable.
• Water industry experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of H&S legislation and CDM Regulation is advantageous.
• Understanding NEC contracts is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership and technical assurance across the project lifecycle.
• Ensure project outputs meet governance and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with project manager, delivery teams and contractors to manage risk.
• Identify and manage opportunities and ensure safe delivery and commissioning.

IOS Project Engineer

Location: Colchester

Contract: Permanent/Full time

Salary: circa £47,345

Who are we?

The Integrated Operational Solution contract is a 5-year programme valued at approximately £444 million, delivering specialist water and water recycling projects. This role involves managing projects under the NEC3 contract suite, with a focus on Option E (Pre-Contract Planning) and Option A (Priced Contract with Activity Schedule).

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Project Manager and delivery teams to ensure robust management of contractual obligations and compliance with Anglian Water’s governance standards. The role is employed by Anglian Water and involves working in partnership with our framework partners Barhale, Kier, and MGroup.

What will you be doing as our Project Engineer

You will be responsible for providing engineering leadership and technical assurance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring projects are developed, designed, constructed and commissioned in accordance with business requirements, regulatory obligations, governance standards and health & safety expectations. The role works collaboratively with internal stakeholders, contractors and delivery partners to develop solutions, manage risk, assure technical compliance and deliver sustainable business outcomes that provide value to customers and the business.

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours

• Scope technical solutions that meet operational and business needs.
• Challenge data, assumptions, and drivers to identify the best value solution.
• Lead Delivery Assurance meetings across the project lifecycle.
• Review project outputs to ensure governance and compliance requirements are met.
• Proactively identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
• Build strong relationships with contractors, designers, operational teams, and stakeholders.
• Undertake site assurance activities during construction and commissioning.
• Provide engineering expertise throughout delivery and own technical issues through to resolution.
• Education to A level of equivalent
• Appropriate engineering qualifications (desirable)
• Knowledge of H & S legislation as well as CDM Regulation
• Water Industry Experience
• Understanding of NEC contracts
• Full UK Drivers Licence
