Job summary

Sehlhorst Equipment Services seeks a Project Engineer to support underground utility installations and oversee day-to-day activities on active projects. The role collaborates with project management, foremen, and field crews to ensure safe, on-schedule, and high-quality site operations.

The ideal candidate will have a Civil/Construction background, experience with underground utility work, and strong planning, coordination, and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Experience with underground utility construction (sanitary, storm, water) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with reading civil/site plans, specifications, and grading plans.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with construction management/scheduling software a plus.
  • Ability to work both in an office setting and on active construction sites.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing and coordinating underground utility construction, including sanitary, storm, and water pipe installation.
  • Support project managers with day-to-day management of active jobsites
  • Review project plans, specifications, and shop drawings for underground utility scopes
  • Track material quantities, deliveries, and coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Assist with scheduling, sequencing, and logistics to keep projects on track
  • Prepare and maintain daily reports, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and utility companies as needed
  • Assist with quantity take-offs, cost tracking, and change order documentation
  • Conduct field visits to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to plans
  • Support jobsite safety compliance and promote a strong safety culture
  • Help resolve field issues and logistical conflicts to keep work moving efficiently

Job description

SES is seeking a Project Engineer to support the management of underground utility installations and assist in the day-to-day oversight of active projects.
