Job summary

Short-Elliott-Hendrickson, Incorporated is seeking a Civil Engineering/PM oriented undergraduate intern to support field staff on municipal roadway and utility projects in Minnesota. You will assist with on-site observation, surveying, and staking, and help with development and design tasks while communicating with staff, clients, and contractors.

The role requires travel to sites, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Project Management or related undergraduate program.
• Travel to/from office and nearby construction sites as needed during summer season.

Responsibilities

• Assist field staff with on-site construction observation, surveying and staking.
• Support project managers and engineers with development and design tasks and maintain communication with staff, contractors and clients.
• Draft project information accurately using AutoCAD and related software.

This Opportunity:

• Join a collaborative, close‑knit team working on municipal roadway and utility projects both on construction sites and in the office.
• Support field staff by assisting with on‑site construction observation, construction surveying, and staking.
• Assist project managers and engineers with project development and design tasks, while maintaining effective communication with staff, contractors, and clients.
• Accurately draft project information using AutoCAD and related software.

Essential Qualifications:

• Candidate must have reliable transportation to travel to/from the office and nearby civil construction sites during the summer 2027 season.
• Actively enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Project Management or related undergraduate program
• Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, on-site inspections, etc.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in construction inspection, monitoring, or supervision of work crews
• Knowledge of roadway plan and specification reading
• Previous experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $21 and $24 based on skill set and experience.
