Job summary

ESPO Corporation is seeking a Field Project Engineer in Clarksburg, WV for a 6-month contract. The role focuses on mechanical installation for power plant or large industrial projects, bridging engineering design and construction execution.

The candidate will support mechanical systems installation, coordinate between home-base and on-site teams, and ensure safe, compliant field work. Prior combined cycle or heavy industrial project experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years in field engineering, industrial construction, or power generation.
  • Experience in power generation, energy, or industrial projects.
  • Experience in combined cycle power plants preferred.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, and GA drawings.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems (piping, rotating equipment, HVAC).
  • Familiarity with civil/structural interfaces and electrical interfaces.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support field construction activities focusing on mechanical installation and execution.
  • Coordinate daily work between home base engineering, on-site engineering, and construction teams.
  • Interface with mechanical, civil, structural, and electrical teams for proper integration.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation.
  • Ensure field installations comply with project standards, codes, and safety requirements.
  • Provide technical support to construction teams and resolve field issues.
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and work front coordination.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, construction concerns, and field conflicts.
  • Interface with QA/QC and support inspection and documentation efforts.
  • Track field changes, RFIs, and as-built documentation.
  • Monitor progress and report status to project leadership.
  • Promote and enforce site safety policies and procedures.

Project Engineer

Job Overview

Our client is seeking a Field Project Engineer with a strong background in mechanical installation of combined cycle power plants or large industrial facilities. This roll will support field execution, ensuring that construction, installation, and commissioning activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications.

The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical systems installation (piping, turbines, HRSG, BOP systems) and possess working knowledge of civil, structural, and electrical disciplines to support the multi-disciplinary team. Candidates from related industrial sectors such as chemical plants, refining, petrochemical, or heavy industrial construction will also be considered, particularly those with multidisciplinary exposure.

Description

The Field Engineer will serve as the key technical resource in the field, bridging engineering design and construction execution. This individual will primarily support mechanical systems installation while also supporting civil and electrical teams to ensure proper integration and successful project delivery. This position requires a hands‑on approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate effectively in dynamic construction environments.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in field engineering, industrial construction, or power generation
  • Experience in power generation, energy, or industrial projects
  • Experience in combined cycle power plants is highly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • P&ID's
  • Isometric Drawings
  • General Arrangement Drawings
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Mechanical systems (e.g., piping, rotating equipment, HVAC, or similar)
  • Basic civil/structural interfaces (foundations, supports, steel)
  • Electrical systems (cable routing, equipment interfaces)
  • Effective communication and coordination skills

Preferred

  • Experience with EPC projects in power, chemical, or heavy industrial environments
