Job summary

PowerSecure, a Southern Company subsidiary, is seeking a Project Manager II to ensure the safe installation of DI equipment and timely EPC project completion in Durham, NC.

You will lead cross-functional teams, manage budgets over $15M, oversee procurement and schedules, and mentor junior staff. This role requires OSHA certification and strong financial acumen to drive risk control and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field with 6+ years in energy or construction.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • Experience managing budgets over $15M and multi-project portfolios.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification required.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes and environmental standards.
  • Experience coordinating utility interconnection requirements and regulatory approvals.
  • Advanced proficiency in project management software (MS Project, Procore).
  • Strong financial acumen including forecasting and variance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe and healthy work sites following company standards and legal requirements.
  • Lead complex, multi-phase projects of strategic importance.
  • Serve as primary contact for stakeholders and communicate progress.
  • Develop risk management plans and contingency strategies.
  • Oversee project portfolio performance metrics and report to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project execution processes.
  • Lead post-project reviews and lessons-learned sessions.
  • Support business development through proposals and client presentations.
  • Mentor Project/Construction Manager I staff and guide junior teams.
  • Collaborate with finance and operations to optimize resources.
  • Lead permitting and interconnection coordination with utilities and regulators.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental mitigations and safety regulations.
  • Manage subcontractor selection, scope, and performance.
  • Oversee RFIs, change orders, and close-out packages.
  • Maintain project documentation using Procore and PM tools.

Description

Job Summary:

The Project Manager (II) ensures the installation of DI equipment and execution of EPC projects are completed safely, on time, on budget, and within project specifications. This role includes project initiation, production/procurement oversight, budget control, schedule control, and project closeout. Additionally, PM II leads strategic initiatives, mentors junior staff, and manages high-value, multi-disciplinary projects.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field AND 6+ years of experience in energy or construction industries. Or a minimum of a High School Diploma with 8+ years of experience in construction, energy industries would be considered.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects with budgets exceeding $15M.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification required.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes and environmental compliance standards.
  • Experience coordinating utility interconnection requirements and regulatory approvals.
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring junior project managers or coordinators.
  • Advanced proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore).
  • Experience in risk/change management and mitigation planning.
  • Strong financial acumen including forecasting, cost control, and variance analysis.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Travel required (50%+); must be willing and able to drive a company vehicle and/or fly commercially.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for 3-4 hours at a time.
  • Exposure to sitting for extended periods, varying climates, noise levels, energized electrical equipment, overhead hazards, and heavy machinery.
