We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer with 2–3 years of construction experience who is eager to grow into a Project Manager role over time. In this position, you support project management and field operations while gaining hands‑on exposure to a variety of commercial construction projects across Virginia. You work closely with project teams to ensure projects run smoothly, stay on schedule, and meet quality expectations.
Support project managers in planning, coordinating, and executing construction projects from start to finish.
Assist with project management tasks, including scheduling, budgeting, and tracking project progress.
Coordinate field operations and provide support to on‑site teams to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
Participate in commercial construction activities and help manage day‑to‑day project issues as they arise.
Prepare, process, and track Requests for Information (RFIs) and other project documentation to maintain clear communication and accurate records.
Collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure alignment on project goals, timelines, and deliverables.
Help manage multiple tasks and deadlines across different projects while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail.
Travel to project sites across Virginia to monitor progress, support field operations, and ensure adherence to project plans.
Actively develop skills and knowledge required to transition into a Project Manager role, including leadership, communication, and decision‑making capabilities.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field.
2–3 years of experience in construction, with field or project‑based experience preferred.
Hands‑on experience or strong exposure to project management in a construction environment.
Experience in commercial construction projects.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Willingness to travel within Virginia to support various project sites.
Strong desire and motivation to grow into a Project Manager role.
Solid understanding of project engineering and project coordination processes.
Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, field staff, and other stakeholders.
Experience working on self‑perform construction contracts is beneficial.
Exposure to civil construction or related disciplines.
Familiarity with Requests for Information (RFIs) and construction documentation processes.
Strong organizational and communication skills that support coordination across multiple projects.
Interest in long‑term career growth in construction project management.
This role involves a mix of in‑office and on‑site work, providing exposure to both project coordination and field operations. You work on a self‑perform contract that supports a variety of projects and clients in the Virginia market, offering diverse project experience and the opportunity to see projects through from planning to execution. The position requires regular travel within Virginia to visit active job sites, collaborate with field teams, and support project delivery. You can expect a professional, project‑focused environment where you gain hands‑on experience and receive support in developing into a Project Manager role.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chester, VA.
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $75000.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
